Hi all,

New to keeping guinea pigs.
I have 2 female Guinea Pigs ( Flash & Nibbles) they are 6 months old.
Been reading in here a lot about fleeces. At the moment I am using hay, wood shavings on top of paper. But seem to be cleaning them out every other day. Also Nibbles has longish hair and seems to get shavings stuck everywhere.

Would you recommend that I try them with fleece?

Fleece is best in largish indoor cages. Try it out and see what you think. Fleece throws are really cheap to come by. Wash it a few times WITHOUT softener and put old towels underneath. It will give you an idea if fleece is for you and your piggies :) Good luck!

I find that fleece is a very good (and cheap) solution for longhaired indoors guinea pigs, as their hair is a lot less tangled.

You can get cheap ployester bed throws in many places (primark, asda, market) for as little as £2.50 to £10. You can also get cheap towels for underlay in the same places.

You always need wash your fleece without softener, as that seals the surface and makes the piggies ist in their pees. For that reason, you also need to prewash the fleece a couple of times before use.

i use compressed shavings and hay i got my little boys on saturday and when i got up this morning i found the cage smelt not too bad but there was an odour what is best to use all advice welcome

Yeah there housed indoors! Will buy some over the weekend and give it a try. :)
