Ok guys :) First of all, I am from the United States (so sorry for maybe sounding dumb with this question...But I LOVE this board so hope you don't mind I have invaded it :(|):(|) You guys just care about and have so much more info about piggies then people seem to over here! )

Sooo.. now my question. What is this fleece that you guys are talking about and lining your cages with?!?!? I have asked around at the pet stores over here and they have NO IDEA what I am talking about! HaHa Do you know any websites that I could go on and look at it. I am hoping to find an alternative to the CareFresh that I am using since it is just costing me a great amount each month.

Thanks!!

Its used to make alot of warmer winter style jumpers,i get mine from a store called spotlight but i think glynis is right that walmart would have it over there, another option is going into the for sale/wanted section and posting about wanting some as we have a few members that sell fleece on here.

ebay is another place, although it is easier to get it from someone who has knowledge of GP cage sizes or a craft store.

Fleece is really easy to find. I live in Canada so I am not sure if we have exactly the same stores, but some stores you could find it at are like fabric land or walmart or any other sewing supply places. The fleece I have in my cage is actually from a dollar store, cost me $1.25 for a small as they called it " Pet Blanket". I think if you bought it from a fabric place it might be slightly more pricey but not by a lot. its just the soft fabric thats on the inside of some jackets and stuff.

I love using it in my cage. The first week I had my guinea pigs I only had shavings and I was sick to death of picking shavings out of mochas longer hair everytime I picked her up.

remember you need a layer of something absorbant underneath like towels. And you need to wash your fleece first about 4 times to break down the barrier and help the fleece wick away the urine :)

yes, you have to other wise the urine doesnt soak through it, into the towels, but tends to sit on top of the fleece - causing it to stay wet! Washing breaks down the barrier new fleece has - but dont use fabric softener because apparently this helps form a barrier. If you find your fleece is wet or smells this is probably why. :) I got all my info from here

Hope the link works!

candywishes i didnt know that about having to wash the fleece first for a few times!

I think it depends on the fleece. The first ones I got I washed once and they wicked fine, another one I plonked straight down without washing and that wicked well too, (although it has started bobbling at a fairly early age!). But definitely if the fleece isn't wicking well then a few goes in the washing machine will fix it!

I always do that with new tea towels to make them better at drying.
