hi ive been using fleece for my cage and i wondered how everyone else cope with cleaning hay off them?my boys like to get hay everywhere8... and even though i brush/shake most of it off before washing it i still find hay and hair stuck to it after its been washed.any advice would be greatly appreciated

brush and shake after as well as before the washing. There's always a biy left but nowhere near as much as with vetbed...

i use a plastic cat poop scoop - great for scraping most of the poops and hay off my fleeces. I find it works better then a brush.

I put a sheet of newspaper directly under the hay rack. That way, the paper catches the majority of the hay and only a small amount goes onto the fleece. Although, Mimsi has burrowed underneath the paper before, sending the hay flying all over the cage and the floor. I find that hay shakes off fleece much easier than vetbed.

I find that most of it comes off during the wash, and the rest I pick off as much as possible afterwards.

My boys eat newspaper and burrow into hay, no matter how neatly I put it in one or two corners, it ends up all over the the cage... I give up!mallethead

I shake as much off as poss then put in on the ground and stand on one end and brush off of the other. This only leaves a very little bit.

:)p

I shake off and hang out and whatever is still on there goes back in the cage. I haven't noticed it being much though.

My fleeces are covered in white guinea hair mainly.

I think it is actually - mine do too and i've read loads of messages from people who say their piggies eat the newspaper.

mine eat anything: wood, paper, cardboard, plastic, carpet, the lot...:{

I shake as much off as poss and wash inside an old duvet cover then tumble dry. Our tumble dryer is front venting so all the extra hay ends up on the filter.

now that is sensible washing it in an old duvet cover wish id thought of that before as i think some hay has blocked up my washing machine :(

I have just discovered too that when you take the fleeces out of the cover and they are still damp if you give them a shake a lot of the hay left on them falls off. I now have a garage that looks like a farmyard. rolleyes
