Hi,

I have finally made the decision to use fleece after years of using woodshavings and hay.

I began washing my fleece this afternoon. I have put it on 3 40 degree washes 2 with detergent and 1 without. I took it out between each wash and shook it and popped it back in. However, I'm now wondering if I needed to dry it in between washes (it did feel pretty dry each time I took it out though). Basically I want to ask if think the fleece will be ok to use? Or do I need to wash it all over again tomorrow and dry it in between? 😣😣

I’d try it and see what happens. It may need another wash but trying will be the only way to be sure! Have you got a good absorbent layer for underneath?

I was going to use newspaper and puppy training pads underneath. Do you think that will absorbent enough?

Ok I'll try that 😊

I'm looking forward to trying the fleece I think my piggies will really like it. I just hope it doesn't end up all damp and smelly 😣😂

I use fleece and it's never been damp on top as all the wee just soaks through to the absorbant liner things in the bottom. Its never noticeably smelly either so it should be fine. One thing I would say is it will.never be hay free again 😂. The fleece is great but my 2 regularly sleep on the pile of hay instead 😂😂

I use fleece liners! I love them. I should think putting them on 3 washes without drying will be ok. I only put it on one wash though with detergent and white vinegar (helps with the smell since I don’t use fabric conditioner). Conditioner makes the fleece reduce absorbency over its lifetime. The fleece liners I have, have a padding built in and ‘absorbent bottom liner’. It is not quite that so I either put puppy pads or a towel underneath and that does the trick. My fleece liner lasts about 4-5 days before it starts to smell and needs a wash.

Hi
A quick update on the fleece. I put it on last night and it seemed to be wicking. However, when I got up this morning the fleece under 1 igloo was damp (they both decide to squeeze under 1 for some reason lol) and the puppy pad was soaked so I had to change it. I'm guessing they were not impressed with the damp fleece as they have both now set up camp in the hay box and haven't moved all morning (normally one stays in the hay box and the other snoozes under an igloo) 😂

Is it normal for fleece to become a bit damp in high concentration areas? I'm thinking of ordering some of the washable pee pads to put under there and try that otherwise I wil be washing fleece everyday 😣 Does anyone have any recommendations of where to order them from?

Yes it’s normal for high traffic areas and pee pads would be the recommendation.
I buy my fleece items from a lady on here - her business is called Cavy Couture, if you’re in the uk

Brilliant I'll check both of those out 😊

Are they easy to wash? I wanted to wash my fleece in an old pillowcase to stop hair clogging up the washing machine. Can you wash the pee pads in a pillowcase too? I also don't mind handwashing them.

Thats good! How often do you change the liners in the high concentration areas? (Sorry for all the questions 😂)

I think it depends on the fleece and liner. I change mine about once a week but I check it every couple of days to make sure it's still alright. The fleece I have I bought from a pet shop and the liner is actually meant for elderly people to have in their beds but it does the job.
