I'm having a new cage made for Chucky and his brother I'm having in a few days? The cage is going to be wood and Lino on the bottom I'm thinking about using fleece where do you get it from and what do input under it?

The fleece you would be looking for is called anti pill fleece, or invest in a slightly more expensive anti pill micro fleece. These can be found in stores like Primark, eBay, the range, asda and other supermarkets.

Fleece needs to be changed every three to four days, without a fabric softener, but with non bio detergent and white vinegar(optional) at 60 degrees. Before first use you have to wash the fleece without any detergent at least three times to allow it to remove the water barrier. You can check this has been done successfully if a drop of water on the fleece sinks through, not stays on the top. If it stays, you need to wash it again.

Fleece also needs an absorbent layer underneath to hold the urine. This can be towels, which I find great. Or puppy pads. You can also buy cage liners which are fleece, but built in absorbent layer. You can buy these from:

Fleece needs to be spot cleaned (remove poop) at least once a day.

To avoid clogging up washing machine you will need to brush down the fleece and shake it to remove loose hay and hairs. And optional would be to have a horse wash bag, found on amazon/ebay which allows fleece to be washed well, but all hay and hairs keep contained in the bag.

hi Rach
I use fleece with my 5 boys, I use towels underneath and fleece on top. it is lovely on their feet, warm and snuggly. also colourful and eye catching to look at. I have a 3 storey 'guinea wharf ' set up made by my hubby. :) he is very handy and just as piggy mad as me.
it takes a lot of fleece and towels to kit it out. I have got most of mine from amazon cos quite cheap and robust, also quite large. My towels are old ones and collected ones from charity shops. If you go down the fleece route then a pet wash bag is a must to protect your washing machine from damage from hay, hair etc. My fleece dries very quickly once on the washing line , towels take longer. The base of my set up is polycarbonate sheets, so the whole thing gets wiped down each time it is changed to keep it wee wee free and smelling fine! ;) .
I do a full change twice a week and a twice daily poop scoop with a mini hand held vac. I much prefer fleece as it keeps my piggy room fairly clean, although hay will get everywhere in the home once you have indoor piggies it goes with the territory lol :)

Fleece is in my opinion the best bedding for our pigs. It is simple to clean and is cheap!
I tend too use towels and newspaper under my fleece in order to soak up anything that gets through! I got my fleece from a 99p store near to my house. They had all kinds of variations and sizes. Also I have seen on previous threads that primark can be a good place to get it!

I have a twenty one square foot c&c cage for my five girls. They have a thick layer of newspaper and then fleece. The litter trays have towel then fleece under them as the cage is covered there so that's where they tend to wee.Very rare they wee anywhere else.

I also use towels under fleece after trying puppy pads. I find towels work the best for me.

I use puppy pads under my fleece, but if I was to change to towels, how many layers should I use please?

I use adult pads under my fleeces. I bought my fleeces from B&M (huge, plain coloured in sets of 2) for £3.99 and paw print ones for £1 at Poundland. Luckily the boys haven't been digging as I've tucked the fleeces under the bed pads. Quick and easy to clean. My apartment is now free from the loose bedding!

I have been using fleece for around a year now and I don't think I'd ever go back to anything else. I use towels and puppy pads underneath the fleece, however I am hoping to start making cage liners for them instead as it would be easier for me. They do require to be swept out frequently (at least twice a day for my 2 pigs) but I have found it so much better than using anything else.

It depends what kind of fleece you want I think, I use plain coloured fleece (2 pack for £3.99 from B&M) as I use patterned pee pads around the cage. But you can get some lovely patterned ones from B&M, the range and asda (three stores I use the most). I noticed asda has some nice ones at the minute, I seen a lovely yellow one with rabbit print on it which would have been lovely for easter/spring :) but yeah fleece is great!

I love fleece but would definitely recommend investing in a cage liner, or make one if you're good at that sort of stuff. I finally got my liners after years of owning pigs and cleaning them out now literally takes me 5 minutes. Wish Id have done it years ago, all the hours I spent messing about with loose towels and tucking fleece under....
