Hi! I'm a new guinea pig owner and I currently have one and her name is Minnie :woot: (she's my picture)

I just wanted to know what the fleece thing was about? I've been looking at the picture of cages people have posted on this website and I wanted to know why they had their cages lined with fleece blankets instead of regular bedding? Because that's what my cage has is just bedding. Is it better to have the fleece instead of the bedding? I've had my piggy for about 2 weeks and she doesn't potty in the little potty just yet because I haven't bought her one yet but can someone explain to me about the fleece?

I'm very confused... thank you sorry for being such a newbie!

Hi sorry about the late reply.

Fleece is normally for C&C cages but you can use it for an
ordinairy cage. It's mainly for there comfort & prevents
long haired guinea pigs from getting matted hair etc.

It's okay to use and looks pretty BUT at the same time you have
to do around 5 poop scoops a day if the guinea pig isn't
litter trained. So it can get tiring and quite annoying but
if your prepared to do that. Go for it

Don't understand why people decide not to be helpful... I mean I thought that's what this forum was about? :mal:
Your initial post was in the early hours of the morning when hardly anyone is online! This is a very helpful forum, been invaluable to me and countless others :) don't feel as if you're being ignored, people were sleeping :)

I use fleece as one cage is 15 square foot and the other 20 square foot and I don't use cortex Have litter trays with newspaper then finacard then soft hay.I have a ground sheet then incontinence pads then main fleece.Have towels and fleece where they do odd wee and these get changed when wet.It can be a lot of washing but with cages that size bedding not practical. It is entirely a personal choice. What size cage is she in and do you have any plans to get her a friend as they need com poo any of their own kind. They are herd animals and it makes them feel safer

Yes I was thinking about getting her a companion but I'm not sure if her cage is big enough and at my local pet store they dont really have that big of cages other than rabbit cages. But I was thinking of getting a c & c cage online but they are just so darn expensive :/

I've found this forum to be very valuable to me already, except I just have questions of my own that I have not found on this forum that I would like to hear from experienced owners, like you. And I realize now that I am in different time zones than everyone else which makes things difficult as well.

I didnt think my c and c cage was very expensive, but I live in the UK, so no idea how much they are for you. I am very happy with my cage, it's a lot bigger than the usual pet shop cages and its a lot easier to handle my piggies as there is no lid. It's so nice I can go over and stroke them whenever.

Did you make your own c & c cage or did you buy it?

I bought it off a website that supplied me with all the bits and then put it together myself. May have cost a bit more than getting all the bits separately from e-bay or something, but was easier for me.
