For those of you that have indoor piggies, could you please advise me on what to use ?

I have seen some piccies (wiekbes most recently) of piggies under fleeces, towels and snuggled up in cozy beds and wondered if you just put these in their cages or do you put newspaper or megazorb underneath too ?

Claire xx

I line the cages with newspaper, then put towels in the areas that my piggies wee in, then fleece on top. Some of my piggies have vetbed in their sleeping areas too xx

Mine have a habit of weeing wherever they please at the moment so will have to put towels down right throughout i think.

Does their wee soak into the fleece leaving it dry on top (funny question i know) as i would not want them sitting in the wet !

The wee from my 3 soak through to the towels and the fleece is dry.
I use towels throughout the cage and then fleece on top :)

I use towels then fleece and I put newspaper in between in the areas they wee in most and change the paper every day and fleece and towels every other day.

Yes the wee goes through the fleece and wets the towel. Same as cloth nappies, I used those and would put fleece liners in them to keep the wet away from my baby.

I put newspaper, then a thin layer of megazorb and kitchen roll beneath the fleece. I alternate one of my boys between vetbed and fleece. The fleece is definetly much better for getting off bits of hay and poops. My girls and my other boy are all on megazorb with a small chill out area of vetbed. I have found megazorb to be the best bedding I have tried. It definetly soaks up the urine well and doesnt smell as much as wood shaving for example. Its all trial and error with you and your piggies. have fun trying different bedding till you find the one thats best for you. I had never heard of megazorb until I joined the forum.

Thanks I might try the megazorb under the fleece trick as my boys smell bad on fleece will give it a go - cheers

I moved my boys onto fleece yesterday. So far I'm really pleased. The fleece wicks really well, keeping the top layer dry and the puppy pads I put underneath lock up the moisture. I've secured the fleece to the edge of the cage using velcro and so far so good!

I used fleece and newspaper and they have one area which is hay and newspaper which they use as a litter tray, which is good for me as i would like to let them out on the carpet once i think they are properly litter trained, they also only wee in two places now!

I gave up using vetbed as they just went underneath it and hid, not going ontop at all! now i use towels and wash frequently! just towels seems to work for my girls. i clean all droppings and spray clean wee marks twice a day and wash the towels every other day! or more if needed....:)

I switched to towels and fleece too a few weeks ago. I find it so much easy to clean!

The wee soaks through the fleece, which drys quickly, and soaks into the towels. I literally pick the whole lot up, brush the fleece down either outside or into the (now empty) cage and use a dustpan and brush to sweep up (I bought one especially for the piggies!). Then I spray it with pet cage disinfectant and wash down and put new towels and fleece in :) Dirty blankets in the wash - Job done!

I have enough to put clean in the cage and wash seperately, but tbh, I've found that I pop the piggies in their indoor run (which has a big carpet doormat type things, layer of towels, then fleece with the run on top) stick the dirties in the washer and they are out and dry before I put the piggies backin their cage. Fleece drys so quickly! And the towels, I throw them in the tumble dryer, but wouldn't take too long to line dry I don't think.

I have a couple of 'cage' sets and a couple of 'run' sets, but only because the fleece I use for the run is bigger than those I use for the cage. I use the same towels for both.

I got beach towels and kids fleece blankets 1/2 price in Sainsburys (I think they were all £3.49 each), then the door mats (I think £2.39 each) and big pet fleece blankets (£4.99 each) were from Dunelm.
