How often do you wash your fleece? What can I put it in in the washer till I can afford a horse bag? How do you get hay off it? And we're can I buy some pretty but cheap fleece hides?

Hello! Are you using the fleece for the whole floor or just part of it? If you just use it for part of the cage I would recommend an old blanket. If for the whole cage then maybe buy from wilko? I was looking at them the other day and they were cheap but looked quite good quality. Some nice designs too. Maybe look in pets at home? If you are, again, looking for just part, they do guinea pig fleecy beds. Sooo cute but a little expensive! I would wash a fleece every 2 days ish, as if you leave it for longer, everything will stick to it and it will have to be thrown away!

I hVe some fleece liners that reta made who gave me the cage so have the fleece liners already

Ziggy piggies is very reasonable.she has a website.you can use a pillowcase or old duvet cover to put your liners in ,then place in the washing machine,do not use any fabric conditioner as it will not allow the urine to pass through to the absorbent layer !:) i wash my liners every five days.

I have a large cage with hay trays in half and fleece liners in the other half so they only need washing once a week at the most.

I buy polar fleece fabric on ebay. I love all the lovely colours.

they are cat litter trays that you line with bedding and put hay in,this stops most of the hay getting on your liners, and you usually find they do there wees and poops in there,i change mine daily.getting hay off fleece is pain,i use a rubber brush to get hair/and hay off,i use it outside to shake liners and get as much of he debrie off as possible.:)

I change the fleece every 4-5 days. I just put it in an old duvet as I haven't got round to buying a horse wear bag yet. The cuddle cups, pouches and beds etc I put in a pillowcase. To remove the hay from the fleece I just shake it on the lino floor in my hallway then sweep that up and bin it. There isn't much hay on it usually as I also use litter/hay trays.

I wash my fleece when I see some spots... and when I want to change the colour of the cage. That is once a week or more often. I don't use any horse bag but I put the fleece into the washing machine with other laundry which needs the same type of washing. Of course I shake the fleece out of the window as much as I can, before washing. There is no hay at all, but there is a lot of hair. The washing is at 40°C without any softener and with a spinning cycle. Last week a made a mistake washing the fleece with hair with some synthetic gym- Tshirt in a dark colour which came out filled with white Calipso's hair...:inn::oops:
Once dry the hair was shaked easily...

I use a grow tray, a 32 !itre under bed storage box, a cat litter tray and a small dog bed as hay trays! They all contain hemparade bedding from zooplus and a lot of hay. They get poo and wee picked regularly and I top up hay a few times each day and chuck out old or wet hay every few days.
