Hello everyone,
I was wondering what bedding should I use. Everyone has been raving about fleece bedding. I use aspen wood shavings that have been dust extracted. I just want to know the pros and cons of fleece bedding and if I should switch. I am homeschooled so I will have plenty of time to clean the fleece of you were wondering.

I had my piggy on wood shavings but found that they got stuck to his bum after he weed and every time he popcorned I just got a spray of shavings on my floor! Lol. Fleece in my opinion is a lot nicer and easier to spot clean etc. I clean my boar out twice a day as in shaking his fleece and picking up poos to remove poos and hay. It is soooo much quicker and I know that if I was a piggy I'd much rather lay on fleece haha. It's cheaper in the long run too as you don't have to keep purchasing more shavings. However, fleece can get quite smelly rather quickly or at least mine does from all the urine. I wash his fleece every 4 days or 3 depending on the smell and amount of wee/ hair. Shavings smell alot better! I suppose it depends on the cage also. If they're housed outdoors then fleece is more likely to get damp and Shavings will be easy to just sweep out. :) hope his helps.

Thanks so much. Can I have some tips on wicking the fleece

Washing it a couple of times should do the trick but it really depends on the material and thickness. Mine was done after one wash but then it's not very thick compared to others I've seen sold around.

hi! i tried the fleece, but found that i was having to change twice daily, i use sawdust from an animal feed place now and it lasts 2-3 days, and piggy loves it, along with her hay she loves burrowing in it, and i've had no probs with dust from it x

My fleece lasts a week and stays (mostly) nice and clean. I much prefer fleece as less gets stuck to their little bits. I do have a fairly large litter pan covered with a wooden pigloo in which I put bedding. They use that tray as their bathroom 90% of the time so that's probably why their fleece is so bearable.

I tried fleece too but was unimpressed and was wondering any tips

My two sows have fleece in their 150 x 70cm cage. They have a 32 litre underbed storage box at one end with hemparade (hemp based bedding from zooplus) and HAY they a wooden hidey house in the middle at the back and a poundland cat litter tray with the same bedding and HAY the other end near a plastic children's stool.

The best fleece liner is fleece, zorb and fleece. Will be getting more zorb soon. Oh and going to try wadding in the middle instead of zorb as I saw one of my fave you tubers (think it was piggiepigpigs) raving about it.

I love the colours and designs on the fleece and enjoy making little fleece mats for their hidies. I change their litter trays every two days and sweep up all poos from the fleece every two days.

I definately want to upgrade them to a bigger cage with more litter trays. Love fleece bedding as it is so soft and so easy to clean (thank you horse blanket bag for protecting our washing machine from hay).

As far as I'm aware shavings isn't recommended, I use fleece, my piggies aren't trained to use a litter tray so I change fleece every 3rd day. It works for me, other than initial cost of stocking up on blankets, once you have them your sorted. I use towels as well as good for absorbency.

My piggies prefer fleece and they have fleece tunnels and snuggle pouches too. I love vet fleece as it's so thick but I find it easier to use polar fleece, which is thinner and I can just lift it out and empty it into the bin each day rather than using a dust pan and brush on the vet fleece. Using fleece smells less and doesn't bother their respiratory systems. I have a washable incontinence pad underneath and also use disposables sometimes that make things easier for me. Changing using fleece is quicker and easier too.
