Currently I use woodshavings in my piggies cage not knowing there was so many other alternatives for bedding. After reading on here about the fleece and vetbed options i am really keen to give it a go but really can't decide which to try. I assume towels underneath for both fleece or vetbed? Can you tell me what you prefer please. Thank you.

Vetbed all the way for me! Granted it is pricey to set up (i have two hutches, each one has three pieces for bedding change, and two for the tops of hideys, and four spare pieces, and two for the indoor cage cost me £60 to set this up).

However once bought it is amazing, last a week to eight days for a 4ft x 2ft hutch if you poop check and remove wet newspaper from underneath daily, also lasts a little longer if you allow to dry on a day to day basis.

I'd also suggest a horse wash bag (£10 for large) to wash your vetbed in as this stops the hay/poop clogging your washing machine.

I do find washing vetbed a pain in the winter, i dont like drying it in the dryer as it makes the whole of the outhouse smell like piggie/and echocover washing! So i usually hang it in the green house :))

I've had my vetbed for 2 and a 1/2 years now still going strong! Highly recommended!

I'm just now moving from woodshavings myself. I'm going to be using custom fleece liners with mattress toppers sewn in, like this.

There's just a layer of newspaper under that and this is totally fine for my current pig, because he never wees ANYWHERE but in his litter tray, so I reckon it could last weeks like that without smelling. However, he's getting a new cage mate in a couple of weeks, and if that one doesn't follow Machu's lead with the litter tray, I might be looking to vetbed. With litter-trained pigs I can't see the need for expensive vetbed, but mind you, only freakish little pigs like mine completely litter-train themselves... :))
