Hi everyone,

I just want your opinion on what's better, I'm going to get piggies soon and I am wondering which one you like more. Thank you for helping me out!

I definitely prefer fleece...even though it is more work to maintain and keeo perfectly clean, it is way more cost effective and I like that you can decorate the cage with it. all of my fleeces have lasted 4 years and I spent $5 on each of them but a bag of carefresh would last me a very short time and be much more expensive

Fleece needs to be considered in terms of laundering costs as well as initial outlay and that include washing whatever you use under the fleece, personally I'm not a fan. It's still cheaper than carefresh though which I wouldn't recommend. If you want a disposable bedding I'd go for something like finacard, fitch, or aubiose (or a combination).

I use fleece but I tried Carefresh with my gerbils and would never use it again. It developed a terrible smell within two days and was very dusty.

I use an eco friendly dust free paper based bedding. Fleece would be cheaper but it is hot as hell in Cayman and the fleece would be too warm aswell as it is difficult to find. I really like the brown paper bag bedding i use because it smells nice and keeps for a good 2 weeks (with spot cleaning)! I've seen pictures of the Fleece though and it's so nice and pretty...it all depends on what works for you and your piggies i guess!

I use fleece with puppy pads underneath. Couldn't get on with care fresh but everyone's views are different and as long as it works for you and your piggies that's fine

I've converted from care fresh/megazorb to newspaper, puppy pads and fleece :)
Helps my allergies the piggies being on fleece now :) I clean out everyday and change the main bedroom fleece midweek and it's washed too. All cage liners are washed on Sunday.

Thanks a lot! I'm sort of leaning toward fleece now. Sounds good? It's all thanks to your guys' helpful replies!

We used to use carefresh and now use fleece. Would never go back now and fleece works so much better in the caravan. We use fleece over vetbed with newspaper as a bottom disposable layer.

Just to make life difficult for you I've just started using carefresh in Katie & Nalas potty (I'm lucky they have fully potty trained themselves, right down to pooping In the potty). I think it's fab, odour free and less messy than woodshavings. I tried full fleece/towels in Harry & lloyds cage but we found it really smelly. They now have fleece in the 'lounge' area and woodshavings in the bedroom area and they never pee/poop on the fleece. I would switch them all to care fresh if it wasn't for the high price. I'm now looking at Fitch bedding instead after reading lots of good reviews on this forum but will probably stick to fleece In the lounge area as that's what they're used to x

I'd be reluctant to recommend Carefresh, it's nice & it absorbs more than woodshavings, but I found it to be dusty and expensive :( My piggies are on a combination of fleece & Fitch (which is like Carefresh, but a LOT cheaper, softer & has no dust!) The Fitch has been great for my bunny who has respiratory problems & Marble, one of my piggies, who was forever sneezing on woodshavings! :D I like the fleece, but I find it a bit too much effort to make sure it's cleaned etc. Often the piggies will vary each week on what they're on. They currently have 2 fleece liners that I alternate, so it'll usually be: Week 1 - Fleece & Fitch, Week 2 - New Fleece & Fitch, Week 3 - Fitch. Lol. They don't really mind though & love both :D

I use bedmax shavings which are kiln dried to get rid of the phenols. I must say its brilliant stuff and just smells like wood but not a strong pine smell.

I used to use fleece liners but they smelt quickly, had to be washed every 4-5 days. And because they were large stopped my washers from spinning. I used to put the fleece liner inside an old duvet cover and tie it up to kep hairs and hay from getting in my washer.

I wouldn't go back to fleece now. Not when this bedmax last a full 7 days before clean out day.

I converted to fleece from shavings about a year and wouldn't consider anything else now ..much less smelly and more comfortable for the pigs too .I pig old towelling underneath but have also used puppy pads .I change the towels daily , pick the poo off the fleece daily and change it twice per week . One of my piggies is long haired and previously bits of bedding would get stuck in the fur causing mats and tangles and smells . No such problems now . They live 'free range 'in a corner of the living room like this , with their little covered cat bed and it does't stink like the cage with shavings did .I do use the white care fresh for our dwarf hamster though and it works well for him and is relatively low odour .

I love fleece but it doesn't work for me as i have too many and can't get them washed and dried quick enough so i use fitch which again i love :)
