I am thinking of trying a different type of bedding in my guineas' cages. At the moment we use newspaper at the very bottom followed by a good layer of Megazorb & then a deep layer of hay on top. We have always done this & found it fine but the hay seems to be extra dusty & expensive just now so I was wondering about trying something else...

I find it difficult to pick out the poos when they fall in the hay, they seem to get lost & the wet areas stay wet where they have weed on the hay too.

I like how absorbant the Megazorb is, we use it for all our hamster cages too so I will still be buying it. I was wondering how it would be to keep the layer of Megazorb & just swap the hay layer for a fleece layer. This way the fleece should wick the urine through to the Megazorb. What do people think of this? Has anybody tried it before?

One of our pigs, Pip, is a nibbler of everything. He especially loves chewing my sleeves & has made quite a hole in my fleece jumper. Has anybody found that their pigs eat the fleece? I wouldn't want him to end up eating loads of it & getting ill from it rolleyes.

Thanks for your help :)

when i use fitch in their cage, i sometimes put some fleece pieces aswell for them to sit on and it works well. i find it comes off the fleece easily, but megazorb is smaller so it might stick to it more. try it on one area and see. x

Good idea, maybe I'll get a small piece of fleece & try it on one half of the cage. How do you keep it on the floor so they don't just hide underneath it?

i just folded a fleece blanket and they didn't try to go under it. my two don't burrow under the bedding really, only the hay. :-)

I think you would find that the megazorb would really stick to the fleece as we use it for our hamsters and when they have a mad digging session (Yes Daffers I mean you) they send it all over the pigs' fleece and it does stick.

I tried megazorb - it is good - but vet bed is much better. When I need to force some areas,I lay 2 layers. Some areas have 3 layers.I bought it 2 years and never use any other bedding.
