Having Toffee, Treacle and Fudge set up in an indoor hutch, in my spare bedroom, too keep them out the way of cats and dogs noses. Then I discovered the fleece method of bedding, I was delighted to avoid having to keep buying bags of back to nature bedding, and use old dog fleeces, well washed, and some old towels, and just have to wash it weekly.

Having started on Sunday, and it now being Tuesday, I am already back to back to nature bedding, which previously lasted me over a week, with 2 inches deep. I am not sure if I am missing something but the fleece is not practical for me! it stinks after two days, it was a pain to sweep out. I can see its use in a c&c cage, or a run but I am glad I did not start shelling out on wash bags and new fleece. I know you can put puppy pads under it too, has anyone else tried this?

I would be interested to hear what others feel about fleece bedding.

I just use two layers of towels, it works fine. Fleece should not smell after a few days.
Have you spot cleaned each day?

yes, I have done exactly what is advised, swept, and spot cleaned. The thing is, I wanted it to be lesswork not more! It seems to be easier just to tip the back to nature into a bin bag once a week, then composting it.

I'm sure you're not alone, other people probably are in the same boat as well, it isn't for everyone. Fleece is a high maintenance bedding, you have to work for your piggies health I'm afraid!

Quite, but given the choice between poo and wet picking back to nature once a day with a cat litter scoop, then dumping it in a bin bag at the end of the week, or having to sweep and spot clean fleece which just doesn't seem to be as good at odour absorbing. Then having to wash it, and dry it. If there was no smell, then I would stick to it. But having tried it, and My choice back to nature for my piggies. I think I will use fleece as a run liner, and will certainly make some snuggle sacks out of it

Back on the back 2 nature. I would have had to use puppy pads under the towels and fleece judging by how wet the towels were, which would have been another expense, as well as sweeping and spot cleaning. I reckon my boys are on the beer the amount the wee!

Did you buy many fleeces?

washable absorbent bedpads and/or disposable incontinence pads work well under fleece. :)

Ahh, yes. I think I might have had quite a few snuggles sacks! They are having a skittish five minutes at the moment, kicking back 2 nature everywhere! Tut tut......
Haha! Lol. Yeah, it's annoying when bedding drops out of the cage!

I have proper fleece cage liners and they are very good and also absorbent they then have a traditional bedding area full of hay with newspaper underneath. I tried them on Fitch which is what the rabbits have in their litter trays but it was too messy. I love that I can take the cage liner out and shake it off and that's job done.
