I have used the fleece over the mattress cover & it didn't work to well. Should I use double thickness of the protected or is it because I tumbled dried it after washing. Or it is beacause the cage is to small. Just bought C&C cage so that would sort the last problem
Any advice would be great.

Do you mean the fleece was still wet on top or the mattress protector? The mattress protector underneath should get wet as this is where all the wee should go leaving the fleece above dry. If the fleece is wet on top maybe it's not wicking well enough. Is it new fleece? I'd wash the fleece in very little powder and rinse until there are no more suds - maybe even add a bit of distilled vinegar to the last rinse and give it another go. Don't use any kind of softener. Tumbling should be fine.

I'm still not entirely clear on the problem, but as Kit06 says, the pee goes onto the fleece. It should pass through the fleece within a minute or so, likely less (known as wicking), leaving the fleece pretty much dry to the touch. The absorbant layer beneath will then be wet. This will dry over time, but may not depending on how often you change it. I am leaving mine about 4-5 days between changes and sometimes if they have recently peed then it will be damp to the touch, but otherwise it is dry. I do sometimes get wet patches on the correx as well if it was a big wee, or missed the mattress and just went down the sides, but they either dry themselves, or I mop them up during the daily pen tidy.

The fleece was still wet I'm using a tablet of non bio & then giving it a 30 minute wash at 30 degrees, I'll try the distilled vinegar.

By the way where do I buy distilled vinegar from
Tesco. It's just the clear vinegar that you get in a 500ml bottle alongside the stuff you put on your chips.

I'd suggest trying a hotter wash a couple of times. These things can often have a bit of residue from manufacturing on them so a hotter wash might help. Is it just ordinary polyester fleece? Like the cheap blankets you can buy? Nothing fancy?

Yes it's only it's only cheap, one we did buy luxury ones for the cages, although I think that was probably a waste of money
