I want to switch to fleece liners because straw is messy and I wouldnt personally want it if I was a guinea pig, doesn’t seem comfy to me haha I am stuck on what to use as my layers as I know most use U-Haul denim pads but they’re not available in the UK and old towels etc which is fine but I was thinking of doing fleece, quilted mattress protector, terry towel “waterproof” mattress protector, fleece
Does this sound good/ok, or what have others done in the U.K.?

You don’t necessarily need the quilted protector. A waterproof protector sandwiched between fleece does the trick. You could also use a washable incontinence mat. Or put down puppy pads and lay the fleece on top.

I use a waterproof mattress protector. I sewed two liners for the boys, but with the girls I just put it on the base and clip the fleece to the corroplast - they like to burrow 😳

Thanks for this idea @Siikibam! I had been wondering what to do with my lot when they go into a garage when we move. I now know. Just have to keep an eye out for some fleece blankets now.

Oh okay thank you, I was thinking the quilted one would be abit of padding for comfort and just an extra layer to be sure🤷🏻‍♀️ This was the water proof one Sunshine Comforts 100% Cotton Terry Towel Waterproof Fitted Bed Sheet Mattress Protectors Topper Cover Breathable Super Absorbent Stain Proof Non-Allergenic & Non-Noisy (King (152x203cm )): Amazon.co.uk: Kitchen & Home what do you think

I make my own and use incontinence pads.. lighter than towels and dry faster...

I use i continence washable pads for children/elderly. The oldest ones I have are 7 years old and no sign of wear and they are washed weekly. Then a layer of fleece on top. No papers, no towels (towels are the worst!)

If you look on amazon for anti-pill fleece you can buy it by the meter for about £5 a meter.

Fleece guides have been quite detailed but I got an easier trick nowadays and I can sew one in 5 mins by getting a big piece of fleece, then cut out 20cm ends (to fold over edges of c&c) and sew the end back up et voila. I can give more details if interested.

I wash mine with a dash of hibiscrub (not too much as it foams like mad in the machine) and half a pint bottle of normal white vinegar per wash load.

I do the same for my burrowing pair. Sewing a fitted pad was a waste of my time!
I was going to until I noticed they burrow under EVERYTHING! Even a bath mat placed under their hides 😒 sorry! 😁

Can I ask where you got your inco pads from please.

So you suggest just layering instead of fleece?
Right now I’ve got puppy pads I could use?

So you suggest just layering instead of seeing/attaching to fleece? Just place them on top of each other
Right now I’ve got puppy pads I could use?
Also how many layers of fleece is too much, for example can I just fold it up to the right size or do I need to cut it so it’s just one thin layer

Yes my incontinence pads are not attached to the fleece. I pop in two incontinence pads, then the fleece liner over it and done.

The exact ones I bought on amazon are not for sale anymore, but there are lots of types. Some are a bit better than others, it’s hard to say until you try them. I always search for “washable bed pad” without tucks.

Just one layer of fleece in mine but I’m sure two is fine. I think if too many layers the pigs wouldn’t be able to run etc as no solid ground? I don’t know, one works for me with the right fleece. I use this one:

Polar Fleece Fabric, Quality Material, International Approved Test Report for Anti Pill Finish. 21 Fashion Colours, Medium 320Grams weight. Beautiful Plush Pile for garments, home décor and crafts. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00N4U74PC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Qz6WCbKP08D3Z

I've got two lots of bedding, the first I made from fleece and vet bed, just sewed the fleece like a duvet cover with the vet bed going inside as if it were the duvet. The second lot I did the same with the fleece but used a waterproof quilted mattress protector for the inside. Tbh the mattress protector works just as well and is cheaper, and easier to wash. I worried it wouldn't be thick enough to be comfy for them but it has been absolutely fine. I would recommend it. I got the fleece from b and m.

Which pads do you use? Reusable? Was thinking of putting puppy pads in side home made fleece and waterproof bottom?

I sew my on fleece liners so I have a fleece at the bottom, washable pad in the middle and fleece on top... some of mine have lasted over 3 yrs... x
