I’m considering getting two piggies but if I were to, I would get fleece bedding. I wanted to do lots of research on how to properly care for them before and was wondering how you layer your fleece. I would have just fleece (not the liners that have absorbent layers in the middle), towels, and newspaper. I am wondering how many layers of these thing I would need. Thanks

One of each should be enough. I would say get something else instead of towels. They may not really dry off and I think they smell quicker. But then again others on here have been using them with success.

:agr:
I personally don’t feel towels dry quickly enough and can allow the fleece to remain damp. I use newspaper under hay in my boys hutch (and fleece elsewhere in their shed) and the newspaper needs changing pretty much daily (luckily I have a good newspaper supply).
Something more absorbing and locking such as puppy pads (which can be either disposable versions or the washable version) or mattress protectors work better

I have tried using towels before, it didn't dry well and caused the cage to begin smelling. I use puppy training pads under aspen bedding in 3/4 of my cage, and vetbed fleece in 1/4 of the cage.

I have fleece liners with washable puppy pads underneath in my hutch which is in the garage. I wouldn't recommend fleece in an outdoor hutch.

We've got a small number of towel based sleeping pads (fleece sewn to towel) and honestly I hate them, they get sodden within a day.

If you want an alternative, we made our own liners (I found the commercial ones way out of our price range).

We bought these adult human bed pads, and sewed fleece on top (from primark). I did some by hand and it took forever so I borrowed my mums sewing machine to finish them off. Washable Bed Protector/Pad without Tucks - Pack of 2: Amazon.co.uk: Health & Personal Care

We've used these for about 6 months now, and they're as good as day 1. We have small squares of the same thing that we put in sleeping areas (under bridges etc) and these get changed out 2-3 times a week as they get peed on a LOT more. We do a full clean once a week :)

We use fleece over newspaper and we put washable puppy pads (many types available on Amazon) on *top* of the fleece in "high moisture areas".

This means we can swap out the puppy pads more frequently than we clean everything our (similar to how moodysuzy is using her liners).
