Ok so i have looked thru the threads and it seems fleece maybe the way forward!
If i do use fleece do i need to put anything underneath it? paper?
I'm very new to it all and want my baby girls to have the best home possible!
Many thanks
Tori

my boys live on fleece the way i set my cage out is a layer of newspapers then towels then i use puppy pads then the fleece on top

Hi Tori,

There's some tips on using fleece in this thread:
http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=29854

Fleece does need something underneath it, as it doesn't actually absorb moisture - it wicks it through to whatever is underneath. As long as the 'underbedding' is absorbant, the fleece will stay dry for days. Towels are one of the best underbeddings, as are "washable incontinence pads" (there's a very recent thread about that in this Housing section!). Puppy training pads can work. Newspaper is okay, definitely not the best but it could be used.

I use newspaper, then cheap towels, then fleece. You need to clean more often than with sawdust, but it is cheaper in the long run and you don't end up with loads of rubbish.

But I also know somebody who uses shredded paper between layers of newspaper under their fleece.

Ideally, have at least two changes of everything. Make sure that you wash the fleece before you use it first and never use softener when washing it - it seals the surface and the piggies will sit in their pee.

THANKYOU!
I'm off to the shops to see if i can find some nice fleeces for my girls

I have bought some beautiful red fleece (actually my fella picked some up while he was on his lunch break!)
My girls seem to love it and the boys seem to like pulling it up at the corners!
Their new fleece hidey holes arrived today and the babies have already started to use them...yay!
Sunny has claimed one for herself and after the start she has had i dont blame her! Now the babies are three weeks old and leaving her alone she can carry on with relaxing in her new bed! She is seen lounging around on the fleece way more than I ever did on the sawdust!

I'm hoping photo's of the cage with fleece in place will be forthcoming?;):(|)
