Ok, so we made our new C&C last night and trial-ed fleece again, well again its just not worked, we have our hay in a hay rack at one end of the cage and under the hay rack obviously there is wasted hay, the bigger longer bits fall off/brush up fine, but the smaller finer, dustier bits just stick to it like mad, no end of brushing shaking and washing (have washed it 3 times tonight) will shift it.

I have considered having a different type of bedding just under the hay rack, but the little money's will just bury under the edge of the fleece (which they started to do anyway)

Is it just the fleece i am using? Or what? they are currently back on woodshavings and straw.

Get your hands on a rubber pet hair brush will solve every problem ! Best thing i've ever bought ! :3

I put cat litter trys under my hay racks with some paper in it. The trays catch the little bits of hay which fall and also collect alot of pee and poo while the little darlings munch away.

Similar to them things you clean your windows with to wipe the excess water off? It seem imbedded, i probably did the wrong thing by washing it so much, (glad i did it in duvet cover - poor washing machine)

Lynda1, i thought of doing this but worry they wont be able to climb in and out of the tray or injure themselves trying to? x

Hi,

I make small rectangular fleece "mats" that i put on top of the main fleece, under the hay area and in their hideys etc. They are sewn around a piece of mattress protector, just like the main fleece.

I find it's easier to shake the hay off them being small, unlike the large main fleece. I also got a very stiff brush that will brush off the stubborn pieces of hay that won't shake off. I have tried a normal dustpan and brush, but that doesn't work, the bristles need to be very stiff.

I know some people use a tray for their hay area.

None of mine have ever had a problem jumping in and out, ever when the little ones were about a month old they could jump in and out like there was nothing there. I often find them curled up asleep in the pile of left over hay, the trays also make it easier to clear up, I'm always quite shocked at how much pee and poo is in the tray at the end of the day. :red

Just ordered the brush twiams recommends as I have a real pain getting hay off fleece but they love it so gosh darn much! I'll report back my findings :))

It's useful for everything !
Amazing on clothes, a quick brush and it just falls off you , magic ?/
I also used on the guinea pig, just to be thorough with my testing and it got his loose hairs of him :')
Honestly you won't regret buying it !

I have litter trays under mine too. They're quite shallow ones so they've never injured themselves, but it keeps most of the hay off the fleece and is easier to clean up the wee as they usually go in there.

We use a cheap fleece blanket over the top of our vetbed and, yes, there are always little bits of hay that get stuck after shaking and washing. We haven't found a way to get those bits out but I have to say, they're not too much of a problem and I've never really thoght about it before...

The brush that twiams recommended is amazing! Definite must have for fleece :))
