I was looking through the members gallery, and noticed alot of you use fleece instead of shavings & hay.
How often do you have to wash these? and do you find they're better then the normal new paper, [shavings], hay

Thanks everyone! :D

Have any of you found that the piggies try chewing any of the materials?
I made some piggie beds out of an old towel, but I have 2 piggies that LOVE nibbling things, they have chubes & apple sticks, and often other lil toys/things to chew, but I'm worried they'll try eating the material bedding too =/

I started using fleece a couple of months ago and find it much better than traditional bedding (I was using newspaper and hay before).

Opinions seem to vary on wood shavings, but lots of people say they aren't good for pigs because they can cause respiratory problems.

I have a sheet of lino, then newspaper and old towels under the fleece and I only need to change it once or twice a week. The best thing is that there is so much less waste- I used to hate throwing a big bag all of their bedding in the bin every day. This way all that is thrown away are the (many) poops that I sweep out every day, and the newspapers, which I can recycle as they are generally not too wet.

None of my pigs chew the fleece but it will depend on your pigs I guess. You may find they burrow under it though so it's best to fasten it to the side of the cage.

My piggies seem to love the fleece, they have a couple of small ones pegged to the sides of the cage to hide in/behind which they all love. I would definitely recommend changing to fleece :)

I tried a peice of fleece yesterday with one of my piggies, so far so good hehe :)
He had a lil try and pulling it up when he first went in, but now he I think he quite likes it :)

Mine have a kitchen area with sawdust in and where all their food and hay and veg go and they have alot of room in there, but they always go down the ramp to the fleece level so they must like the fleece or they would stay where their food was

I've made a lil soft bedding area in one of the bigger cages :) Mum gave me an old towel, so I made some pillow/cushion things, and a few lil beds :) so far they al seem to love them :)
I also found a cheap fleece pet blanket on ebay, which made1 large cushion, 2 small ones, and I had enough left over to line one of my piggies cages too :D

Here's Zippy investigation his pillow.

This is a great idea, Squigle. :rose I have some fleece that I'm not using as bedding. I should make a nice pillow for my boys.

Hehe :)
My Ozzy seems to love the long fleece pillow...It's hardly a pillow though hehe, it's longer them him! :p
