Hi,
Planning on converting to fleece bedding in the near future once C&C cage is ready, but have a question about the best order for the layers.

We have available:
Fleece
Mattress protector
Newspaper
Puppy pads

Obviously the fleece would go on the top, what would be the best order to put the rest of the layers in?

Hi :wel:to the forum..

We currently use fleece for our C & C cages, and our set-up is as follows : Vinyl tiles on bottom followed by puppy pads, towel then fleece.

If your mattress protector is not water proof - then we would use Newspaper ( optional ) puppy pads Mattress protector then fleece. ( please wash new fleece without fabric conditioner at least 3 times before use, as this will allow it to wick away any fluids )

As we have members from all over the world, can you please add your location to your profile as it helps fellow members give any answers to questions you may have that may be area/country specific. Hiya, have you got boars? I use fleece and love it but it can get smelly so does need washing regularly. I haven't got a c&c my boys are in hutches but I hear people put a shower curtain or waterproof sheet down first. My set up is lino then newspaper, towels then the fleece :)
Add puppy pads under area they wee in the most is another tip, also litter trays are good too under the hay rack.

In my bedding area I have vet bed fleece with a towel on the top then a fleece blanket for them to snuggle in it make it really soft and warm. Here's some pics of my set up :) I love the fleece blankets from asda around £5 each.

We have 2 pairs of sows (plus one older boar who will be having one of the larger conventional cages that the girls are vacating).

It sounds like I should go with fleece on top, followed by mattress protector (absorbent but not waterproof) with newspaper as the bottom layer before the coroplast.
Potentially won't have enough puppy pads to cover the whole cage so will locate these in corners and food areas, below the mattress protector and above the newspaper.

@ChrisC27 how big will your C&C be? 2 puppy pads from B&M (in bag of 30) covered the base of my 4x2 slightly overlapping.

I currently use newspaper, mattress protector from lidl then a folded fleece :)

Nothing has ever soaked through the mattress protector!

The two cages are 4x2 at the base - I haven't collected the puppy pads yet so was unsure of their size!

There will be a 1x4 upper level for each cage (5 squares in total as it's L-shaped).
The mattress protector will be on the base, will the upper levels cope without it? (Might be able to fold the puppy pads in two).

I have shower curtain then towels then fleece.Use litter trays but have smaller pieces of towel and fleece where they pee now and then. The main fleece only gets changed once a week and smaller bits every two days

I cut the puppy pads to fit my cage as my cage floor has an opening where their ramp comes up from the bottom level. They are easy to cut with scissors.

I use 2 or 3 layers of towels then the fleece and then I have 3 small pee pads (2 layers of fleece with 2 layers of towels all sowed together fleece 2 cut towels then the other fleece) that I made and I put them on top of the fleece where they pee most and they can be changed anytime needed and I change my fleece every 7 days and have no smell.
