I’m thinking of trying fleece bedding, however it seems all the bedding specifically made for piggy’s that are water proof underneath seem stupidly expensive. I understand that some people just buy normal fleece and use something waterproof underneath. What can be used? I’d love to hear people’s expirences with fleece or any alternative bedding. We currently use wood shavings which I believe there are mixed reviews about

I am wondering that too. I use newspaper and hay from a local farm which is very reasonable, bale cost £3.50. I recently bought an indoor fabric puppy pen so we can take them anywhere with us. It's 5ft in diameter and octagonal in shape. Have ordered fleece off eBay and want to make my own fleece liner for it, but wondering what to sew under it for waterproofing?needs to be large cheap and waterproof that will fit in the wash and also not too bulky. Any ideas please?

I buses normal fleece and line the bottem of cage with puppy pads
I’m am from the U.K. and they sell a pack of 2 fleeces in B&m for 4.99. I’m just wondering if thin fleece is a bad idea or if it would be ok? They go to the toilet in their hay area so I won’t be putting fleece in there just hay and newspaper

I think everyone has a different opinion on there fleeces. Tbh mine aren't thick there more blanket type folded up then I leave a bit at the end of cage where they mostly poop and pee with just puppy pad . They have there hay in a hay rack and food /pellets in bowls. If u want more padding mabe use the puppy padso then hay or sawdust then put fleece on top. I'm also in uk x

When my girls have their floor time in their run I use a fleece blanket (it was £2.99 from eBay) with puppy pads under it. I washed the fleece 3 times before use and the wee goes through it onto the pads which soak it up. I do find that hay sticks to it so it has to have a good shake before it goes in the machine. In their cage I just use puppy pads, newspaper and hay for bedding. :)

My cage set up means that I use a variety of bedding, their hutch stands in their c&c cage (which is called their indoor run) in the shed. The c&c run is lined with waterproof backed terry towelling mattress protector, and then the fleece on top.
Their hutch is currently lined with newspaper and then lots of hay, but I am having a delivery of finacard from a farm shop shortly, so the hutch will then be changed to be a layer of finacard with hay on top.

That's all been very helpful, I will use puppy pads under fleece for holiday and buy a waterproof Terry towelling under sheet for home and cut it down to size.

Sorted thanks

I think it’s more putting them in the wash that I am concerned about! Hay In the washing machine etc how often do you wash them?

This is what I was going to get

I wash every 3 days depending onot if they have peed on the fleece then every 2 .. I wash 3 times before putting back in and I use a tough bristle brush to comb hay of .. and that looks like the fleece I have just mine are really blue .

We have a hybrid c&c use a waterproof table cloth to protect carpet, then use towels and then fleece on top

Try and get the less shiny fleece if that makes sense and never wash with softener

Forgot to add that I put on a 100degree wash without any soaps or powders x

Some people use horse blanket wash bags in the washing machine to protect it from hay and hair. You can get them on amazon or ebay.

Super! I'm just preparing my first run now and that's what I plan to use. Good to know I'm along the right lines .
