Hi.

I've seen a lot of people has started using fleece as bedding, when we had guinea pigs, a big problem for my boyfriend was the mess.

And then I was thinking that maybe fleece would be a better idea for ideale bedding?

Anyone has exsperience with that?

We use fleece, little pet blankets from Poundland so dead cheap. We washed them a few times first to make sure they wicked properly and can confirm that they do what they're supposed to do. Cheap, easy to clean, warm soft and comfy for the pigs, looks cute and neat too. Doesn't get damp and horrible because it goes through to the puppy pads underneath.

I get bigger fleeces from b&m, 3 quid for a decent size.Have paw prints on but the piggies don't mind. They wick really well.Have smaller pieces over towels where they wee sometimes that get changed when wet then main fleece changed every week.I have litter trays that they do most of their wees and poos

Definetly go with fleece! its so easy to clean and it is neater. You will just have to spot clean every 1-2 days! go for it! :D

You have to spot clean two or three times a day!
haha you sometimes :D mine dont really need it 3 times a day :)) they sometimes need it 2 times depending on how much they want to coroprate with the litter box :D which is not a lot :))

I'm trying a box with a towel in it as they have used it to tinkle in more than anywhere else. Box is too small for a litter pan too.

the box isnt very hygienic even with a towel on and the towel will retain moisture so they will be sitting in wee . This can cause problems. The idea of the fleece is that it wick away the wee so they are always on a dry surface.

Okay, I'll add fleece on top of it then? Or just let the box get wee in and use a paper towel ect?

How big is your cage? Saw the big fleece you're referring to in B&M yesterday. I think it was huge! To cover a sofa, right?

there was a 200x150 one with paw prints on and a 150x120 with paw prints and other stuff on. They do a pack of two plain ones in different colours that are thicker for 3.99 these are 150x120. Are you using a litter tray? mine sleep in theirs and if you put paper then bedding then hay they are really easy to clean out, just tip and wipe. I use finacard in my litter trays and this seems to be dryer than shavings and doesnt fly about everywhere and very little smell if you change it regularly. My cages are 15 foot square for the 4 and the other 6 are in 20 square foot soon to be 25

They are only babies, just moved into a CC enclosure, so they are finding a new wee corner I think. The box is just a solid square with two open ends, that was meant to be a tunnel, but they decided otherwise, so I'm accomadating their choice of sleeping/resting place, but wee happens there as they are still babies. The box is one that bird seed bells come in, so it's solid, with holes precut so you can see the bells when shopping, but not steal them. The two fit fine now, but as they grow I will have to upgrade to something bigger. Hope to have a litter pan worked out by then.

They will wee where it is covered. You can get corner litter trays but I use cat litter trays as a few of mine are big and they like sleeping in them.If you put newspaper then bedding then hay in the litter tray and peg fleece over it they may use it.They wee and poo as they eat so you could put a Hay rack over the litter trays. You can bend a grid to make a hay rack and peg it on the sides.I had to bend mine at the sides to stop them jumping in them

Thx, I already have the hay rack built. I'll look into the fleece tenting. I didn't know they were underground deficators. That's opposite of rabbits, I set things up thinking they acted the same, food and poo in opposite corners. Is it okay to use paper towels? We don't take a paper.

They love sitting in the litter box under the hay catch. Thanks so much for the idea!

Not sure about paper towels.Someone else may know. You don't need to line it just makes cleaning litter trays easier.

We had to change it one day out, but two guineas and they must be using it a good bit. Is it normal for the fleece to be slightly damp. Just enough to feel cool to the touch, not enough to get fingers moist at all.
