I have read on here many times that you shouldn't put fleece throught the tumble drier. My question is: why?

Due to my washing-machine being out of order, I have had to use my local launderette, however with the weather the way it's been, I haven't been able to dry my fleeces at all this week, meaning they've got drenched every day as they were left outside to dry. I would usually put them through another spin cycle and put them to dry inside but this just wasn't possible (money, space, etc) and I had no fleece left so I have resorted to using the tumble drier as a one off... Good news is that as well as being dry, the fleeces have remained the correct size! Phew! and finally, Frankkie and Finlay are as happy as pigs ... on dry fleece!

I think they may shrink because of the type of fabric? Not 100% sure.

Don't yours dry very quick anyway? I wash mine the same day I clean the piggies out, then I sling it over the bannister on the stairs & it's dry the next day. I do have a few spares though. It doesn't get used straight away, I pop it in the airing cupboard until the next clean out rolleyes

I use the tumble dryer when it's raining and haven't had any problems I just make sure I don't use tumble sheets as they'd act like fabric softner and put a coating on them. They only need 10-20 minutes max anyway ( well, they do after my new machine's spun them, the last one was useless! ). Not had a problem with shrinkage ( but then I do cut them with a fair degree of excess anyway ) you could avoid that by drying on cool anyway.

i tumble dry mine! :{ i've never had any problems with shrinking etc, and just pop it on for ten minutes or so because by the time they're out the washer they seem pretty dry anyway. i do have spares so alternate them - so one in the wash, one in the hutch which isn't too much of a problem as i only use fleece in the bedroom. xx

I thought it was to do with shrinking, and also the possibility of locking in any smells from it? Not too sure though. xx

There's no problem using a drier as long as it's on cool to prevent shrinkage. It's only fabric softener you shouldn't use on fleece.

Think if it's done on a low setting, should be fine.
Vet bed will air dry indoors pretty quickly. I throw mine over the airer in the hallway and flash it through the dryer if needs are a must and never had a problem.
I believe it can affect the absorpency or something but not 100% and can't find a definite answer not to tumble dry. Maybe it will take toll if taken from washer to dryer regularly ?/
Just try and air dry overnight first if possible :)

That's great news that they can be tumble dried :) I always use a 1200 spin with mine & they come out virtually dry anyway, just need hanging up overnight & by the next day they are dry :))

that's good news... I must day mine were sodden from the rain so I put the whole lot (about 4 cages worth or upstairs and downstairs) on high for 2 hours.... rolleyes they were bone dry by the time I got them out!:))

for the record, I have accidentally had a couple of fleece washes where I added softener (out of habit from usual washes) and can't say I have noticed much difference! Like I said they were 'a one off' when I was clearly thinking about something else!mallethead
