I'm getting my first c&c cage. I don't want to use bedding due to cost, but my pigs are also allergic to fleece. Can I use vetbed or is there another alternative I can use?

I know you said you don't want to use bedding cause of cost but I've searched high and low for mine and have discovered "snowflake" softchip. It's wood chips, is £6.50 per bag and it lasts ages. I filled my c&c which is a 5x2 and it's hardly made a dent in the bag. You would be better off getting it from a horse supplier rather than pet shop

Depending on where you are in the world bedding can be the same or less as using washable bedding, shavings bought in bulk are cheaper than the cost of detergent and the lec to wash fleece for example. There are alternatives like suedecloth that you can make a liner from.

Oh, I'm also interested in how you know your guinea pigs are allergic to fleece. Could it be that they were allergic to the detergent that you used to wash the fleece? I'm intrigued! Have not heard of this before. Not that I am doubting you, you understand, I am just perplexed!

Vetbed is an ideal bedding as it is hypoallergenic. I use it myself.

I would recommend Vetbed too. You just need something underneath to wick away the wet.

I actually had not washed the fleece. My pigs would sneeze every couple of minutes. I thought they had a URI so I bought the in to a vet and they were healthy. I then took the fleece away and in a couple of days they stopped sneezing. It's very similar symptoms to a URI.
