So this is definitely a weird one and one I could not find much info on at all online! Occasionally one of my boars who is around 5/6 months, when stroked, properly flares his bum and what is supposed to be “inside” pops out! He rumbles at the same time, sometimes does the weird strut waddle too but is definitely not in pain and I’m pretty sure he enjoys it. Even though it happens often it’s a bit alarming when it happens as it just doesn’t look right and I don’t understand what the reason for this happening is. My other boar doesn’t do this at all, although he is the less dominant one. All in all though the bum flarey piggie is totally happy! Any ideas? Pic attached - he was waddling at this point, so blurry - sorry!

I’ve only seen boars ‘flare’ their bits when scent marking. The rumbling and bum swaying sounds like dominance behaviour. There is no harm in getting it looked at. Does he go back to normal when you stop?

My boars do it from time to time too. It's part of the dominance behaviour they do to their cage mates. I assume their trying to dominate me!

My dominant pig does this all the time. Freaked me out at first but it’s just what he does as he’s rumble strutting about.

Yes he totally goes back to normal when I stop.

For those who said their piggie does this too, does it mean they don’t like you stroking them at the point they do this if they are trying to assert dominance over you? He really loves a cuddle and gets super comfy so it’s quite bizarre!

I think he likes me stroking him as he doesn’t walk off. I think he’s just showing off that he is the boss. He seems very happy with himself at the time.

That's my reading of the situation too!

Ok fab - because that was how I read it too! Nice to just have the reassurance I’m not doing something he doesn’t like! Thanks all :)
