I'm thinking of ordering some fitch to try out. For those that already use it, I'll be using it in a 5x3 c&c cage- do you think Fitch is cost effective for such a large cage? Do any of you use it in similar size cages- if so how long does a 20kg bag last you? Shall I put puppy pads or newspaper down before? The c&c cage does have a correx base though :)

Thank you in advance

I'm just coming towards the end of my first bale. Unfortunately due to using a different enclosure for the first week (which took up half the bale!) and probably using too thick a layer I don't have an exact idea of how long it would normally last but I'm hopeful it should last a good 2-3 months. My cage is a 4x2 L shape with a 2x2 basement and 3 2x1 lofts so overall a few grids more floor space than yours so depending how sparingly you can use it and how often you need to change it (I've created an accidental toilet loft so don't need a huge layer elsewhere which I can get a good week or so from) you should be able to make it last well.

With regards to lining it I think it depends on personal preference, I use puppy pads because I hate the feel of newspaper and this works well for me. However I do reinforce with newspaper in the loft where they pee as this just gets sodden every day!

Personally I love it and would definitely recommend it to anyone and everyone! (Think my friends are fed up hearing about it!) Good luck, let us know how you get on.

Was thinking about changing to this but I have litter trsys so will last ages.Going to make litter trays from correx {use ground sheet and disposable incontinence pads, cheaper than puppy pads)You.ve just made up my mind for me.The incontinence pads are 25 for 6 quid and 50x90 cm in size on ebay.I have a 3x3 and a 5x3 c&c

Oh I think I'm going to try it! Fed up of fleece and it always looks mucky!
Madguinealady- how many of those pads do you plan on using for your 5x3? Saves me working it out haha. I'm awful at maths!

I really like Fitch, not been using it long but it stays really dry and no odour for ages, much better than anything else I've used. Price wise it's good too, you don't need to use loads and it doesn't need changing every couple of days like my previous stuff, I do mine every 6-7 days now.
I've not got to the end of my first bale yet, we got it at the beginning of October, I would expect it to last another couple of months at least.
(I used corrugated cardboard and a layer of newspaper under mine)
