so excited to try it :(|)

i expected it to feel kind of like woodshavings but it's soooo soft. it looks lovely, no dust at all.

i hope they don't all nibble it though and ruin my plans rolleyes

i got it as a back up really because i'm struggling to wash and dry all the fleece etc.

Snap! Mine arrived today too - the delivery man left it just inside our door as too heavy for my Dad to lift, I've dragged it in and have cleaned both hammy cages and they seem to love it, it's so soft and dust free and no smell. Wilfred my Syrians pushed it all up to one end of the cage and made a huge nest and my dwarf hammy is busy digging away. Have since dragged bag to the garage - think this is my new hammy bedding!

you should have seem me trying to drag it across the room! it was way too heavy! :))

glad you like it. are you going to use it for piggies aswell?

It's an awesome bedding, for all animals. I am currently using it for the pigs however I'm changing over to fleece soon, the 15kg bag seems a lot but when you have a rescue with up to 10 hamsters and a couple of your own it soon begins to run out. I'll be ordering my second bag soon and I'm going to use it for the rabbit little tray and the hamsters. I will say it's amazingly absorbent and worked well for the pigs.

I contacted them to ask if they do a sample pack as i would like to try it for one of my hamsters, but they dont do them and i really dont want to buy a bale and its no good. Any hamster people you'll have to let me know what you think, clyde has particularly smelly wee and i need something that is going to last longer and not irritate his eyes.

i've put some in maisie's cage now and used fleece blankets aswell in random spots incase she would rather sit on those. and also in the buns litter trays.

i thought maisie would be cautious of the new bedding as she usually is about things, but she just wandered straight over it. :))

in the buns litter trays, the fitch has turned darker/orangey where they have wee'd so easy to spot for spot cleaning.

so far so good. it does smell strange though to me. not strong, just a strange smell. :))

Do you think its worth the money? And what size bale did you buy? I like the sound of it, but not sure whether its expensive or not, as i dont know how much i would need to use.

yes i think it's worth the money. i just got one bale which is 20kg i think. a little goes a long way. i've hardly used any but done maisie's cage twice and the buns litter trays twice aswell. x

At the mo I'm just using it for my 2 hammy cages and reckon it will last a good while - I do put loads in as mine love to dig and nest build. I'm thinking its safer for the diggers than the hemp bedding as sharper and not such small bits like hemp.

No I'm not using it for the guineas at the mo as Artie's on the foam matting he seems to like, and Melvin and Parsnip seem to like newspaper and hay in their hutch. I might try it in summer but I'd need a lot for their huge hutch and newspaper and hays cheap, and they seems o like that.

I do think it would be good for rabbits and guineas.

I am a recent Fitch convert. I had been using megazorb but have found it to be increasingly dusty and have found a couple of foreign objects in it. I think the Fitch maybe works out a little more expensive, but I wouldn't go back to megazorb now. The Fitch is so soft and dust free and doesn't make as much mess as megazorb and I think I use less too. :laluot_15:

Another convert! After Megazorb got so dusty and I found a number of foreign objects in it I bought Fitch for my hamster. She loves it! burrows in it, makes nests and is very happy so big thumbs up from her. Unfortuntely the guinea shed is just too big to warrant the cost of Fitch so they are now on Medibed and flax. they love the Medibed, very snuggly but not so absorbent as Megazorb hence the flax. They do think that Medibed is a new food source though..mallethead

I have an indoor cage for the six guineas when they come into the house for play time and intending on trying them on Fitch for this tonight, looking forward to their reaction!

i'm loving the fitch. i used to do a full cage clean every other day, but now i still change the bed area every other day, but the other area of the cage, i am on day three and so far have only had to scoop 1-2 small wet areas each day. so i'm excited to see how long it will last, and if it gets to a week, i will do a full change anyway. but even getting to 4/5 days just doing the odd wet fitch scoop would be amazing.

Fitch is dirt cheap volume wise its about 3 bags of megazorb worth for only the price of 2 bags ive used it since sep 2012 and love it :-D I use it for all the hams, pigs and buns.

i've gone back to doing a full cage clean every other day. by the time i spot clean, change the hay and remove any wet newspaper, i may aswell do the whole lot. i don't like the thought of the newspaper being wet underneath either, even though most of the top layer is dry, so i'll just stick to doing that. i use fitch if i don't have any dry blankets for them, so i will be using fitch more but in the winter when i can't get the blankets dry quick enough then it's fine, and when we have better weather i will go back to fleece again until autumn/winter. works for us anyway. :)

is your cage a 120cm biscandmatt?

no, it's a 5x2 c+c cage. and then one of the grids opens out for floor time, which is the mesh cubes cable tied together, and that's the same space again, sometimes bigger. :) the cage is much drier when they have floortime but they haven't had it as much lately because it's sooooo cold in here.

ah I was just curious :-) the smaller the cage the more frequently they need cleaning out that was all. Every other day wow my boys ask if they can come live with you?

:)) go on then, i'll have them aswell! sometimes i get an extra day between cleaning on one half of the cage but to be honest, i think i also just like cleaning it out :)) ches didn't really wee that much but maisie did, and now we have eddie and he wee's alot aswell, so maybe that's why.

i noticed it seemed better with some vetbed so i bought two more pieces of that. i was seduced by finding some in pale blue and some in yellow! :p they also had lime green and candy pink but the seller removed them for some reason. grrrr

I really like fitch bedding, it's much better than megazorb and more absorbent than the finacard.

i got my second bag of fitch today but i'm not happy with it. it has alot of really hard pieces, some of which have sharp edges. has anyone else had a bag like this? it doesn't seem very soft either this time. i'm going to email them and see what they say. it almost looks like it has been over dried and gone really hard.

i got a reply from fitch saying that it's a natural product and some harder bits will be there from time to time. i wasn't offered a replacement or anything which is disappointing but they said they would make a note and if i order again then someone will check the bag before it's sent to me. i told them i was disappointed that no replacement was offered but left it at that because to be honest, i can't be bothered trying to get them to send another. i'll use what i can and buy another next week when i have some money and use that over the other. bit annoying but like i say, can't be bothered today.

What are the delivery times like for this bedding ?

I’ve looked at it a few times now, but never converted as i just find it easier to pop to the shop and get sawdust haha.

Does it last a while ? i only change my single piggy once a week and even then on sawdust half his bedding is still fresh !

i got another reply:

We are unable to offer a replacement on this occassion as the bedding is a recycled product there are times when some paper may be a little coarser. However as a valued customer we will add 2kgs extra to your next purchase and as noted we will make sure it is of the softer material.

i'm happy with that and glad they have offered something at least, alot of companies wouldn't. :)

they say it goes out within 3 days and takes upto 5 to deliver overall, but i have got it twice now and it's been quicker than that.

it does last a while, and with your single piggy and once a week cleaning, it would last ages! :)

Been using fitch for a couple of months now in my hamster cage and a section in the piggies cage. Wasn't the cheapest thing to use to pay out for in one go but Benny (Hamster) had previously been on Carefresh so in the long term I'm gonna save my self a massive amount- if only I lived close enough for pick up it would be well cheap :). The pigs have two-thirds of their cage fleece and one-third other as I wanted something a bit more natural and where I didn't care about hay being everywhere. I originally just had newspaper and hay but hated it as it would be drenched and stick the next morning and just didn't have the time and newspapers to keep changing the section everyday. After buying the Fitch for Ben I thought I'd try it out with the pigs and have been really impressed using with both types of animals.

The pigs have it in one section so I couldn't tell you what it is like in a whole cage- if I'm honest other than sawdust I don't think there is a substrate I could afford to fill the whole cage with so fleece works as the main part. Fitch has been really good though- I clean the cage once a week and odour control has been pretty good. It's nice and soft so good on piggie paws and isn't too dusty so I'd assume fine for their respiratory systems. Poo pick up is really awkward but too be fair this is probably because I'm used to only using fleece. There is one thing that i've been wondering though: Is it just me or has anyone else noticed the fitch almost seems to coat the poo in like a fine sort of dust? I'm not sure if it's just me but the poos always feel really dry on the Fitch :)) this is a good thing though.

Hamster wise I've also enjoyed it- Ben doesn't seem to be bothered either way. Odour control is pretty good with regular pee corner clean out. Biggest advantage for me though is how soft it is though- Benny is a climber, and a faller so having a nice deep floor to fall on has been helpful. He isn't much of a digger but he's had a good time filling up his house and sleeping among it.

Was really impressed with the amount you get- I've been using it for a couple of months and don't think I'm even half way through and I use it for a smallish section in the Guinea pig cage (changed weekly) and a full fairly deep hamster cage (cleaned every three/ four weeks with daily pee corner cleaning). Only problem was when I opened the packaging the tape they'd used to seal it ripped the bag open in multiple places and so I had a ripped bag and had Fitch all over the room- was a nightmare. Moved it into black bags now but wasn't impressed with the original packaging.

Well that is my thoughts on Fitch, defiantly recommend so far. Not the cheapest bedding in the world but long term defiantly not to bad :).

MargaretB - I stopped using it too for this reason. My last bale smelt almost cheesy and was so dusty it was awful. I shall have to look at Fitch bedding but too be honest my two are happy on ecobed and its cheap too
