Hi

I am very sorry that you have a satin that is affected with SGPS (satin guinea pig syndrome). How long have you had them and since when are they showing symptoms? Not every satin develops the full syndrome although all carriers are affected by it, often unnoticed. It doesn't just affect the bones but in fact the whole body, including the jaw/dental overgrowth and eating. The first symptom of active satin disease is usually sleeping one the side with both feet off the ground to take the pressure of the spine and legs. It is a very specific position that is only seen in satins.

Euthanasia is usually considered when the quality of life is becoming impacted, moving around and eating are getting difficult and the pain throughout the whole body becomes too much even with strong painkillers. Please do not wait for your piggy to die in agony. If you have any doubts, please see a vet as soon as possible.
