My guinea pig has a suspected UTI and was on Baytril (.4 ml/twice daily) for a week but only had a little bit of improvement. I was wondering what the next step would be, another round of antibiotics or a test to see if he has stones? Also, If he has stones and had them taken out would it be likely to reoccur?

Sometimes it can take a lot longer or a different antibiotic to cure a UTI.
Equally an x ray to check for stones is a good idea.

If both an infection and stones are ruled out then IC is the next thing to look into.

Surgery is needed to remove any stones. Likelihood of reoccurrence is difficult to say - some never get them again, others do.
Stones can occur due an issue with the diet (calcium intake) or a genetic predisposition which there is nothing you can do anything about.

Thank you so much for the response! When I asked my vet about another antibiotic they told me that Baytril is the only one they prescribe, is this typical in the US? I'm 99 percent sure it's just a UTI, but they said they would want to check for stones instead of doing more antibiotics, is this typical?

I can’t comment - we are Uk and there are a variety of antibiotics which could be tried.

Ruling out stones is a very wise move
