I'm in a bit of a predicament at this minute, I couldn't tell you why - but several of my neighbours are setting off fireworks quite close to my house in their gardens and my piggies are outdoors. As expected, my piggies are in a hidey and seem quite frightened, despite my efforts to just talk to them and calm them.
I rushed upstairs to make a temporary C&C cage in my room, just over a metre long each way as a temporary stop (my room is incredibly small, if anybody from the UK knows what a "box room" in a council house is -- I'm in one of those) and then I thought - the piggies don't even trust me yet! I havent't held them for more than five minutes, at a time, and although they may occasionally eat from my hand, they mostly rush away if I even slightly move or pet them.
Plus since they're so new to their home still, I'm unsure if moving them would be more stress too? I wouldn't want a strange body moving me to a new home, even if I was scared of the fireworks!
Am I better off just trying to comfort them? Or would you recommend I still move them?

This situation is always difficult knowing what to do for the best! I think I would be inclined to stuff the hutch with hay, pull down any hutch covers and then check on them every now for the next hour or so (depending on how long the fireworks keep happening) and then But be prepared to bring them in if they really don’t settle in an hour or so.
It’s starting to get on the cooler side for outside piggies now anyway so a hutch with extra hay and hideys and hutch covers down might be appreciated anyway!
Last year I brought my boys in over firework night (I had got them in the July before) and to be honest they weren’t as bothered by the fireworks as I thought they might be. So, over new year I left them out in their shed, blankets and hutch cover over (which kept the flashes blocked out) with extra bedding and they actually weren’t bothered at all.

Thanks! Luckily I stuffed their hay about half an hour before the fireworks started and placed their hutch cover down for the night. I'll keep my eye on them! I've been leaving them for 20ish minutes per check just to see how they're doing.

I was prepared for bonfire night, nye and diwali for things like this, but I didn't expect to hear fireworks quite so soon after buying them! 😅

The difficult thing is of course, is if you’ve not had them long and they aren’t used to you being around them yet, they may appear more anxious during checks but they may be fine in between times.
No, I wouldn’t be expecting fireworks in September either!

My neighbours have fireworks tonight too, maybe there's some sort of festival we've overlooked... glad my piggies are indoors, its a tough call with outdoor puggies what to do for the best, especially if they are fairly new... best of luck @kikirllett !

I'm usually really good with festivals! Oh well, it's raining now so everyone's gone in! Now my piggies can just rest for the night and I can dismantle this temporary cage that I didn't end up using (floor space, hooray!)
