Hi Folks. Can't believe this. Just got my piggies on Saturday and had to have Jasmine to the vet today. She's got a chest infection. i just hope that I caught it in time. She's just a baby so hopefully that will be on her side. The vet wouldn't say one way or the other. Can'te believe it. Has anyone had similar experiences and any positive stories? She seems ok in herself, eating like a trooper and drinking too but not very happy about being in a different cage to Belle. She was squeaking like crazy before. Can only assume she was missing her. Fingers crossed peeps. she's got 7 days of antibiotics. :(

Bless her, has your vet given you probiotics to help her tummy while she is on antibiotics? they mighthelp her as they can give them runny poo.
We have a boy that is 2 years old and had a chest infection not long after coming here and he is doing fine O0
Fingers crossed for her if she is eating and drinking it is a good sign
fingers crossed for you x

welcome to the forums from us in oz :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: sending jasmine hugs and healing vibes :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: the girls send :-* :-* :-* like said if she is eating and drinking that is a good sign. but ask vet about a probiotic to protect her tummy from being upset by the antibiotics. sending hugs :smitten: :smitten:

I had a guinea pig with chest problems from a young age, he had recurrent chest infections and he lived to be 5 and a half so I;m sure your little one will be fine :)

Don't know if I've done that right but fingers crossed....

Just a little while ago I had exactly the same problem (see above) and I am happy to report that Bumble is doing great. I weigh him every day and since his treatment finished he has gained weight every single day and has almost doubled his weight when I got him. I did have to syringe feed him for a day or two as he went of his food and he was so tiny he couldn't afford to lose any more weight.

You will get plenty of support and advice from this forum ........ I hope she pulls around.....

Hope she'll be fine :) Woodstock had a URI a few months back now and he improved very quickly - you wouldn't think there was ever anything wrong!

Just recently, all 4 of my girls came down with URIs (Upper respiratory Infections) and all 4 succesfully knocked it on its head with help from ABs.

Hi there and welcome from us in OZ :) :)
Sorry to hear about your little Jasmine being ill so early :'(
Looks like you've caught it quickly O0 well done love :)
Sending healing wheeks and piggie kisses from Duke and i to help her get better quickly :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Thanks All. She seems fine and like you i'm optimistic. Belle's none too chuffed though. She's very timid I think. Climbing up the cage whenever you put food in or anything. Bless her. Will keep you all posted and thanks for the support. My daughter Madison would be devastated if anything happened to her.

Aw poor piggy! 3 of mine have had chest infections, 2 babies and 1 old man lol! they are all fine now so try not to panic! x

Thanks all for all your support and good Karma. I think Jasmine will be absolutely fine. she's just been to the front of the cage and i stuck carrott through and she was gnawing away happily on it. It's Belle who's concerning me a little. Her eating is poor (compared to jasmine's at least and she's so very very scared. I held a piece of carrott through the cage to her too and she just flies away. I guess persistance is the name of the game here.

dont worry she will be eating while youre not looking! some stay shy all their lives, but they do get better with age just give her time :) x

I'm getting the distinct impression that Jasmine and Belle really are missing each other. I was wondering when it would be a good idea to put them in the same cage again? Should I be waiting till Jasmine has finished her antibiotics first?

i kept my girls together while one had anti-biotics and all was fine. unless its something that can be passed on to another piggy then i wouldn't. xx

Well just as I thought things were getting better it now seems Belle has a gunky left eye so it's off to the vet with me tomorrow. I'll be glad when this is over. Maybe it's nothing serious and she's nowhere near as rattly as Jasmine was but we'll see. Fingers crossed again guys. I'm needing some more of your karma. lol
