Ok, so I feel like a bit of an idiot posting this thread. We rehomed our solo boar Squeak from my dad as my teenaged siblings don't have as much time to spend with him anymore.
I thought he was neutered and as he has been really worried and scared since he moved in (about 12 days ago now) Ive kept handling him to a minimum.
Today we have been out in the garden and have had him out for some lap time and strokes, which he really seemed to enjoy but he is very definetely NOT neutered! :red:red It's totally my fault, I knew that my dad had had one of their male pigs castrated and the kids have had lots of black and white 'Squeaks'

Cue me feeling like a total numpty, I really should know these things! I will say though that owning a guinea pig is very different to nursing them in hospital. The sum total of our 'exotics' teaching was one days lecture and although I have monitored anaesthetics and taken one girl home overnight for nursing, having my own guinea pig has been a big learning curve!

Anyway, to get to the end of my rambling, I'm desperate to get my Squeak a friend and now a wife is out of the question, I'd love to try boar dating.
I don't drive so woudl be limited to travelling on public transport.
How long a journey would he be able to cope with?
I have a small travelling box that I could make nice and cosy for him.
In general would I leave him for a period of time before collecting him again?
Sorry for all the questions!

The first step would be to give your location so we can find you a rescue that does boar dating in your area. :)

Hi! The best way of finding a friend of their liking for a piggy of any gender and age is by "piggy dating" at a good rescue. That allows your piggy to decide who it wants to be with under expert supervision; it maximises your chances for a stable relationship while minimising your risk of ending up with two single piggies who don't get on. This is especially important for boars of all ages - carefully bonding boars according to character compatibility puts paid to the usual boar myths!
You may find Suzygpr's boar dating blog very interesting: http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=59233

A good, recommendable rescue will only rehome vet checked healthy, guaranteed properly sexed and well bonded piggies. It will also support you during the settling in phase and in fact, during the whole life of their piggies. For all that service, it is worth going travelling a little bit further! Members of this forum are currently building up a list of rescues all over the country that do exactly that.

I have piggy dated piggies of mine several times, always with great success and wouldn't go elsewhere anymore.

Whereabouts are you located?

Thank you both. I had no idea about boar dating before I found this forum but it seems like such a great idea.
I emailed the rescue local to me but unfortunately it was returned as undelivered. I'm happy to travel, as long as I can organise baby/petsitting and time off work, as long as he wouldn't find it all too stressful.

What email address did you use? I have the owner of the rescue on FB so can let her know you are looking.

I travelled from Surrey to her rescue and back again, in one day, on public transport to pick up four piggies lol! But then I am a bit mad...

Hi, I used the [email protected] email address?
There's a mobile number on the blog too, I text to check whether that was correct (rather than ringing a random person!) but haven't had a reply.
If you don't mind checking whether I've got the correct details, that would be fab thank you x

All about the animals has sadly closed down for the time being.

Your currently closest recommendable rescues that offer boar dating are either Suzygpr's in Glynneath/South Wales, the Potteries in Stoke-on-Trent or RNGP Welfare in Rugby. The RSPCA Walsall unfortunately only offers sow or sow/neutered boar dating, but not full boar dating.

I could come as far as Wolverhampton on the train and take your boy to Rugby if necessary.
