My own little world
Just started using finacard (basically like shredded cardboard) as a base for my girls' litter tray (they are mainly on fleece) and they love it so much they are relaxing in there with chooken leg out and everything!

I'm fairly impressed with it compared to eg carefresh, got a huge bag so pretty competitive price wise and it is very soft, no hard bits at all, not dusty, seems pretty absorbent and no nasty smell (the brown carefresh has an unpleasant smell IMO). I use a very fine layer of recycled paper pellets underneath for added absorbency.

Does anyone else use it? Any downsides you've found?

Only downside is that it sticks like crazy to the cage bottom if it gets soggy ... my guinea pigs favourite pee spot for example and the bale is huge ... other than that its great stuff!

Worked out at 60p per week for a 4x2/ferplast 140 so half the price of megazorb, probably about 1/4 cost of carefresh and cheaper than washing fleece etc.

I've just got it in their litter tray and I change daily vast majority of days so sticking hasn't been a problem so far, found the carefresh worse in that respect :)

Do you use ferplast cages? I hate the little blocky pattern on the base as I do think it makes it harder to clean! Wish it was smooth plastic.

I use Finacard too in my c&c and think it is great :) I put newspaper down first then a layer of Finacard on top, I have been thinking of getting those pellets for more absorbancy although absorbancy isn't really a problem. Just wanted to see if it made a difference. What do you think about the paper pellets?

I have used the paper pellets on their own for a while in a thicker layer (you can buy them too from finacard much cheaper than in shops) and they are pretty good, really absorbent. I only used newspaper for a day or two once as I couldn't believe how wet it got. What I can't get over is how much the girls seem to like the finacard, like it's a lovely soft new mattress :)

I'm thinking of changing to FinaCARD from Megazorb as I'm starting to find it a bit dusty and it's so light that it gets all over the floor in the kitchen!

Would anyone suggest I buy the paper pellets aswell as the bedding? Or is it fine as it is? I also use newspaper at the bottom just to make it easier to clean out!

I'm waiting for my first ever delivery of finacard to arrive! So I'll be able to contribute more when it arrives. Carefresh makes my boys sneeze and I've noticed (maybe more so in the hot weather) that fleece gets a bit smelly so I'm glad to have found what appears to be a good thing.

I swopped 2 of mine to finacard a week ago and they love it and happily sleep on it.
I haven't noticed a smell like i did with hay or vetbed, and it seems very soft.
I have a thick layer of newspaper underneath so no problem with it sticking to the bottom of the cage.

That's a good tip, the newspaper. :) I might try and find something else to use as no one in my house reads papers.

Have any of you had any problems with your pigs eating finacard?
