Hi,

I wonder if someone could give some advice.

Ruby and Titch have never fought before although never got on like I thought two girls would, they aren't sisters there are two weeks difference. They were in the pen together when I got them.

Ruby has always being dominant and when I got them thought she was a male and had her checked as she mounted Titch alot, Titch used to submit all the time. Now Titch Is older they are around just over a year now I don't think she submits or will take it anymore.

I have only just been thinking though how chilled they look in their cage. They have two of everything and have 4.5 long cage by nearly 2'. Apart from rumblestrutting with hormone spikes which last two days with Ruby and one with Titch that's it really.

They are in our bedroom where it is quiet but this morning at around half six without warning they just went for each other, Ruby seemed the more subdued after it not Titch so I am guessing Titch wouldn't give in. They have calmed down now but no have just started again as I typed that bit their squeaking is so loud and their teeth chattering is frightening it's when their squeaks over and over it's hard to described the noise but I think alot will know the noise. When it gets loud it seems to be when one wants to move in the cage. There is no blood but I am worried like on Sunday going out till mid afternoon or even today when I go out. ?/

I got Ruby out when they were fighting this morning I had to to stop them. :0

Will it go to blood shed that's what I'm worried about then I have two lone gps which isn't what I wanted.

Any help please.:{

Thanks,

S L

Sorry your having problems been there myself so know how heart breaking it can be as to what to do for the best. Teeth chattering is when one is warning the other step closer and I will attack it can fizzle out or erupt. Sadly not all guinea pig friendships work out I find it goes a lot of personality. Has anything changed in the cage in the last few days? Have they been cleaned out or had a new item? You could try bathing them, its supposed to work with boars and bond them and in my experience helps some what as they are both scared and in same situation it might calm them down.

Hi,

I bathed them on Monday as they have had either mites or fungal and vet gave me malaseb. I don't know if that worried them too much but it had to be done. Neither one will let the other come out of their house, when one does move the teeth chatter and loud squeaking starts. I feel very un easy about it all and worry about even going outside, what if they fight will they fight to the death, I've never had this ever before.

try taking the house out for a start if sounds like its the bone on contention so try taking it out and see.

Hi,

Thanks for getting back to me it is appreciated.

I cleaned them they were fine out running about. Took their big house out. You mentioned something new a cardboard box made into a house which Ruby hogs and chews.

I put another cardboard box in so they have one each to chew and when I was out my daughter said they are fine. I just looked and they are eating separate ends of the cage. Maybe it was the one box or it'll start again.

I will let you know.

Guinea pigs can be funny things, keep us posted :)
Hi an update.

everything was ok until yesterday evening Ruby was in a house squeaking but the terrified squeak when Titch was near her box but Titch couldn't understand what the heck was going on as she wasnt teeth chattering or anything she was bemused. I stroked Ruby and she calmed down. it was her poor squeaks the neighbour must of heard her.

Quiet all night, apart from me I didn't get much sleep waiting for them to start. I cover them on a night, I think they like that. A bit of teeth chattering very low key though at half six so I fed them. They share the veg bowl ok and they used to eat side by side at the food bowl but they don't since yesterday.

Do these spats and fall outs just come on out of the blue like it, whereby owners do have to separate them even after a year together?mallethead

I've only ever had to separate one set of boys and it escalated to full on fighting. To be honest if the teeth chattering is sporadic I wouldn't worry too much they sometimes do it when annoyed, just keep an eye on them. Any sign of fighting obviously intervene. Something as silly as a bath or a change of something in their cage can set fights off.

Degu rock,

Just to let you know they are relatively back to normal and Titch who seemed to have had a cocky pill is back to herself. I was worried sick yesterday as we had a day out couldnt stop thinking about them so it wasnt much fun. The seemed fine though no blood and excited to see me when the front door went.

Their two cardboard boxes for houses they have decided to flick away from the sides of the cage so they can go round the back of them and round the perimeter of the cage and then trough two tunnels. I put it all back but they pushed it back I guess they like it like that.
It's funny how they rearrange their own furniture.

Ironically I took a photo of them both eating veg in one house with no arguing today. I'm so relieved as I did think we were going to have two cages before long with lone gps in each.

At least next time I know that they are both hormonal at the same time.

females come into season every so many days so hormones will be higher, just keep an eye on them :)
