I think i may have made a big mistake today by putting my female sows back together. Basically mrs pig had an operation on monday to remove a lump on her leg and appeared to be making a good recovery. she has been in the cage with little pig with a divide down the middle untill today.
I asked the vet today at mrs pigs post op check up if she thought it would be ok for them to go back together and she did not see a problem.
All was fine untill an hour ago when they had a huge fight, i think maybe little pig had tried to pull at her stiches and now i have had to separate them again. When they go near each other at the divide they are teeth chattering and making horrible noise. Will they be able to rebond again once Mrs Pig is recovered? and eventually go back together or is that it now?
They were so pleased to see each other monday when Mrs Pig came home and now I'm worried i have rushed it and ruined their bond. :-(

Before you reintroduce them on neutral territory, give both of them a bath with the same shampoo, so they don't have different body smells.

They have stopped chattering teeth at each other now and sniff noses through the bars. I'm going to leave it a couple of weeks to let Mrs Pig recover and then see about reintroducing them. Hate them beng apart though.

As long as they can still see each other and sniff each other then that will keep the bond going. Try to feed them hay, push it into the bars between them so that they eat together. That's a bonding thing for piggies, eating! Or try using something you can wedge there - a piece of carrot, that they can both reach.

When Carmina was recovering from spaying she was seen through bars by the others, but the hay for all of them was on Carmina's side so that the others had to pull it through her bars. This encouraged them all to eat together and I think it really helped, judging from their body language.

Hope this helps, Sarah

This is a great tip - thank you
