Hello. Please may I have some advice re feeding Fibreplex?
I’ve a boar pig, Spike, about 5 years old and he is recovering from a bacterial gut infection for which he is on Baytril for about another 7 days. (He is also on pain relief for 1 more day, but I can’t remember the name of it sorry).

The vet suggested I gave him Fibreplex and 3 days on, I’ve managed to get hold of it (the vet was out of stock). Spike is responding well to the antibiotics, eating and drinking normally again and producing normal poos. I’m concerned about introducing Fibreplex to his diet for fear of causing a fresh imbalance, just as things are starting to settle. The infection caused obvious pain, made him hugely bloated and he had diarrhoea. The vet thinks the infection may have been caused by food moving through the gut too slowly, causing a build up of bacteria and ultimately gas bloat. Am I right to understand that Fibreplex is a probiotic which will help restore the flora of the gut? Would it help the gut transit so avoiding such an infection in future? In the other hand, would an increase in transit time not cause a fresh bout of diarrhoea? I’m afraid of him being so poorly again.

Fibreplex is an enhanced form of probiotics. It will not cause a new gut upset.

You can either squirt it in to the mouth directly or if your piggy really doesn't like it serve either mixed into a few mushed up pellets or a little syringe feed (can be eaten from a bowl if your piggy likes it).
