Ferplast Cage With C & C Extension

I am so happy for my piggies. Still got to finish putting items in the top level. Like a hay rack and their extra water bottle. But waiting till I purchase a flat litter tray to put them over.

Thanks. I am hoping that they can go up the ramp. Lol. Alby went half way up earlier then turned and ran back down. They are out of sorts at the moment with a scary ramp in their cage. Lol.

That looks great! But can I ask, how have you adapted the roof of the Ferplast cage to allow a 'hatch' into the top level? We have one too and would love to extend but I didn't know you could!

My father in law cut a hole in the wires on the roof. (Don't worry it's all taped around the edges so they can't hurt themselves.) he also cut a hole in the grids. Then he attached the ramp with cable ties.(piggies can't reach these.) they haven't gone up the ramp yet. ;(

I have seen people taking the sides off a ferplast cage to extend it by bending the wires. But we wanted the extension ontop of their existing cage as they will be away from our dog more. Oh yes we also cable tied the c&c to the top of the ferplast.

If you put some sides on the ramp they will feel more secure or create a tunnel effect they will use it no problems. I have my foster boys in a hutch and the ramp was too steep plus just not suitable....a brick, carpet patches and sticky back Sellotape...ta rah! Now the boys are using the ramp with no problems, up and down. :yahoo:

Yes I think I will need to put sides on it. I have plenty coroplast left. I could glue it underneath and bend it up the sides. The wood isn't slippy so they should manage to go up it. I think they may need time.

As they hae probably been in the red cage their entire lives.

Woo hoo success. Guinea pigs on the top level! Alby (white piggie) figured it out first. Now fudge has copied. image.webp

He's a little terror. Always terrorising his poor cage mate. He got under the fleece tonight when I was cleaning the lower cage, and was running round like a mad thing trying to get out. I had to put Velcro around the sides of the opening at top of the ramp so he doesn't get stuck again when I am not here. Little rascal. Lol
