Hello everyone
I am new here. I have reserved my 2 boars, but the breeder told me that the steps on the cage I have bought are unsafe for the piggies.

I am wondering if this is truly the case as many of you appear to have the Ferplast 120 or recommend it.

Here is a picture of the steps

Can my piggies use them safely based on your experiences?

I've never had any issue with those, they don't tend to use the steps any way, mine just used to jump up onto the feeding station at the top.

The steps are much too steep for the pigs to actually use. But my pigs just jump on to the top without needing the steps, at least until they got too old to jump up there.

I didn't even know they were supposed to be steps! I know that sounds daft, but they are so steep that it didn't register and I just thought they were a fancy part of the hidey bit!
Yes, they are too steep for a guinea to be able to use. However, my younger guins had no trouble jumping on top of that when they were in a similar cage.

As long as they can get up there safely then they can use it, thanks for the advice

:D Perhaps you could cut off that bit and make your own ladder or something, not so steep? I don't see how a guinea pig or any animal could climb up those "Steps". Ridiculous.

I have the ferplast 120 cage but the double version. I don't use the ferplast house in mine but not due to the steep steps and like others have said, they tend not to use the steep steps anyway :)

Hi, I have my two 16 week old sows in a Ferplast 120 and it is really good. I deliberated for ages before settling on this one and it has really lived up to expectations. I got it much cheaper than other places at Zooplus. It was quick to set up, totally secure from cats, sturdy and easy to clean. To be honest, all I needed to do was use one of the bendy wooden play arches (medium size) and bend to the right angle to create a bridge. I lean it on second step down and it creates a nice den underneath too. It stays in place well, but they also easily jump up and down, launching themselves on and off when it's dinner time. They have never hurt themselves! Personally, I would have loved to get the 140cm cage for a bit extra space as they are growing so fast, but I cannot fit it in the space we have. They will have an outdoor hutch for the warmer months and a run. At the mo, they are loving a couple of hours a day in a pop up sturdy fabric playpen from zooplus (large) which is also really sturdy. I just put old towels down on the nylon floor and they love it (saves the nylon getting wee stained.) Enjoy your piggies and this is a great site for advice and sharing ideas. It has been really good for me as a new piggie owner.

I had the same steps in my first cage, my guinea pig just jumped up on top of the platform easily. After two weeks I removed that platform from the cage because I bought one of those little wooden houses that I liked much more but I would imagine most guinea pigs wouldn't have a problem with the platform unless they were old, ill or recently operated on
