Hello,

Would a ferplast 120 double Tier be suitable for 4 sows?
I'm confident they will go up the ramp as they love jumping onto their wooden houses and cardboard boxes so the ramp is not an issue.

We have a quite a small cage right now (with two of them being 2 were babies which have started to grow bigger) and I need to get a larger one really quick and so this was the best I came up with. (I have limited space)

C and C cages are out of the question for me as I bought a 2x5 grid and it was a very big failure, only been two months and the correx looks like it needs replacing already as my guineas love chewing it.

Does anyone have any positive experiences with this cage? And I'd be very grateful If you could add a picture of the front view and the side view with the guineas inside.

Thanks!

Hi
That ramp looks far too steep for piggies. You'd need a tubey fleece or something, I have a 120 hutch with ramp and I don't use the ramp you need to be so careful that they don't fall.

I'm planning on putting the ferplast den under the end of the ramp (or one of the wooden houses I've got) to make the ramp less steep as well as add sides to ramp with the cortex that I've got. If I make these alterations to the ramp then would the cage be suitable enough?

I think if you guide the piggies up the ramp with food and you add sides that the ramp should be ok.

If they aren't confident with the ramp I am unsure of what to suggest. It could take a few weeks for them to get used to the ramp of course :)

So the cage itself is good enough if they are confident with the ramp?

Do they do a double 120? Or are you DIY'ing the second floor? I think a 120 is small for 4. I had 140 Ferplast with a second floor (DIY) and that worked fine for 3 piggies.

Yes they do, on amazon they are selling it for £114 approx.

Hi, it's floor space that matters with guinea pigs, so an 120 cage is suitable for just two piggies, regardless of how many tiers it has unfortunately!

Have you got room to put the two tiers side by side instead of on top of each other? This gets over the floor space requirement issue. I've got the ferplast 120 2 tier and that's what I've done for our 4 sows.

This thread shows you how I started and at the end the solution. It's great now - they all move constantly over the base divide with no issues - even our small baby sow.

I have this exact cage for my neutered boar and two sows. It was originally brought for four but I sadly lost one of my sows before the cage arrived.

I would advise that you modify the ramp to make it less steep, I have mine resting on a block and I also have a ramp tunnel to make the ramp safe. My pigs wouldn't use the ramp without the tunnel but yours may be different.

So long as you give them plenty of floor time, they should be fine. My pigs love their cage.

Thanks for your reply, I'm sorry about your sow
I got the cage two days ago and I have modified the ramp by adding cortex sides and extra correx steps on the ramp, they've learnt to Use it and now all four are able to go up and down easily. Also to make it less steep I've placed a wooden stickk house under it. They also have run time outside and they too are loving the cage!
