So my ginea pig has been having some issues with his teeth. He had his first trim 5 weeks ago due to some toung entrapment and an ulcer. That didnt seem to help him so the vet trimmed the teeth shorter 3 weeks ago. He was doing great after that (eating drinking playjng with toys etc) until a few days ago when he started to eat less and loose weight. Were going to the vet again but none of this is making any sense to me. Ive had this guinea pig for 2.5 years and I havent had a problem with his teeth until now. Its 250 dollars to get a trim and i cant afford to do that every 2-3 weeks. I dont want to put him down because he's a perfectly good and healthy guinea pig besides this but I cant afford to get his teeth trimmed all the time. Anyone also deal with anything like this?

So sorry for you. I had a dental piggie called Ted, he developed dental spurs on one side of his mouth. The spurs grew out into his cheek and caused ulceration. He was over three years old when this first happened. We were incredibly lucky that I was directed to an amazing vet who did conscious dentals. It was a lot cheaper than GA dentals and no side effects from anaesthesia. A trip to this vet involved a 600 mile round trip and he started off having dentals every 2 month intervals and after almost three years the intervals had gradually got shorter to every two weeks. Because their teeth constantly grow I’m afraid it is often an ongoing problem. I’m so sorry for you and your piggie and the awful situation you are in. I would discus his long term care with your vet. To get him the care he needs are there any rescues willing to help you with his long term care?
Ted lived a full and happy life until just before Christmas when he was diagnosed with a mass on his kidney and sadly we had to let him go
