I've recently moved to my grandparents (they have a sort of annexe where I'm living) and this has finally given me a garden for the piggies. I've been given permission to fence off the front lawn as a run for the pigs with the added bonus of their tiny lawnmower abilities.

The lawn is roughly 6.5m long X 1.3m wide although the width is somewhat variable. I've thought about various ways to fence and cover it but I was wondering if anyone has any ideas or has done similar. I'm looking at doing it as cheaply as possible (I'm DIY capable) but obviously don't want to compromise on security.

I think it would be cheaper to make a movable wood and mesh run for your pigs, rather than trying to fence a whole lawn.....

My boys have their own lawned off area with direct access to their shed and hutch, but I have just purchased from ebay a movable wooden run ( which folds flat for storage) which is 4ft by 3ft 6inches - ideal for putting on the main lawn, when their own garden needs to grow a bit after all the nibbling.

There is some cool willow stick fencing in home bargains that could be made into a fence. However they are pretty short so I think you'd need two on too of each other for height.

But I agree it would be easier (and cheaper) to make a playpen for them and just take it out when you need it.

@Sara412 would you mind posting the link to the ebay run you bought? I'm looking for a folding run. I can make normal ones myself but don't feel like messing around with hinges etc....

I already have a run they can use but I was wanting a more permanent setup so I don't have to keep moving it. It's a relatively small area really, the main lawn in the back garden is much bigger, I wouldn't fence that! If I create something I'll post pictures.

What I was thinking was that an area like that would be hard to cover (like a lid of a very large run). You could use something like fabric mesh (of the kind for keeping birds off strawberry plants etc) but that would not be secure and only suitable when the piggies are being watched.....

Yeah, I thought this. It would be simple enough to make a roof in several sections though, either hinged or just lift off, with catches to secure it. I guess no one else has done the same so, I'll have to go with my own plan.

Hi this is the item number just put it in the search panel and it will come up ( he has put the price up by £5 since I brought on sunday and also sold a further 10 since sunday) 161261279720

there is a guy who sells seperate panels of different sizes fairly cheap. Think panels about 5 each with 10 postage for so many panels. Dont know how to do links. Think under wire panels on search

Thanks, I'm going to have to do a custom build myself though because of the specific size and in any case the number of panels I'd need plus postage would make it expensive! I'm going to have to figure out how much timber I need and then take a trip to the local timber yard, my grandparents have already got some mesh I can use which is useful.
