Hi there I was just doing regular health check as you do I usually check ears tummy feet just everywhere to be safe and my female piggy around a year now is bleeding below looks sort of thick it’s not leaking of anywhere else but just on the outside I haven’t seen this before? Many thanks x

All the best for your vet visit. My Elizabeth had a period of bleeding. It was coming from her vulva. Very scanned her and found nothing on the scan. We never did find out what caused it

Thank you that’s good it wasn’t something nasty fingers crossed for dory 🤞🏻x

So the vet says she seems comfortable and healthy looking and is treating her with loxicom for cats but can be used on guineas for 4-5 days and we will see how she is then thanks guys x

She thinks it’s a urine infection fingers crossed that’s all x

Yes that is a standard pain relief and the cat version is licensed for piggies.

However, if she has a urine infection then loxicom won’t deal with it. Loxicom is an anti-inflammatory pain killer, but for a bacterial urine infection your piggy also needs an antibiotic. Has one been prescribed?
Did the vet test her urine?

Yes, Elizabeth was treated for a potential urine infection but she was given antibiotics (baytril in her case) Sadly, loxicom alone won’t cure a urine infection. She will need a course of antibiotics to be given alongside x

She didn’t test her urine she mentioned possibly needing to do this if she hasn’t improved by Friday… thank you guys I didn’t even think about antibiotics thank you for help I’m not sure what to do now? X

Yes I agree - you’re going to need to speak to the vet. It is incredibly odd that a vet said she thinks it’s an infection and then didn’t give you anything to actually treat it. Obviously the painkiller will help with any pain, but it’s not going to do anything else if there actually is an infection present
