So I adopted a female guineapig, beans last week to add to my group as I thought she’d be great company for my oldest pig. She’s a lovely girl and her previous owner did say she’d probably be the dominant one in my herd of 4. Two of the girls are only 5 months old, she doesn’t bother with them as much. But my older one Coco she’s been chasing around, mounting etc. For the past few days. I know it’s normal behaviour to assert dominance but what concerns me is Cocos high pitched sqeaks when Beans comes near her or tries to mount her. I’ve never had guinea pigs act in a dominant way so I was wondering if anyone knows how long it will last? And if this situations too stressful for coco, it’s awful to see her act that way as she’s a very timid sweet guinea pig. I only want what’s best for them all. There’s no physical injuries happening I check them all daily and they have a very large cage with access to different food and water supplies and lots of hides. I don’t know what else I can do!

The high pitch squealing could be submission. She has accepted her position in the hierarchy. It sounds dramatic but is just her saying I’m not a threat.

It takes two weeks for them to establish a new hierarchy and working relationship. So while it is just dominance and normal behaviour, then you have to let them get on with it.
