I've been giving my girl Feliway Cystease, and it has been helping her diagnosed IC. However, the vet mentioned that the Feliway (for cats) may not be suited for guinea pigs because glucosamine can come from meat products. Is this true? I know it is working, but I don't want to continue giving her animal protein if that is the case.

She recommend the oxbow treats but my girl will NOT eat them no matter what.

My vet recommends Cystease for piggies too. I believe it's made from sea fish shell. Some glucosamine products have meat flavouring derived chemically to attract cats, not actually a meat product which is why the Cystease is a better product for guinea pigs.

Oh I understand what you’re saying! That makes a lot of sense, thank you. She wasn’t familiar with cystease at all, so maybe she assumed what you said, the flavoring of meat

She mentioned that Oxbow uses plant glucosamine in their tablet, which my piggy hates so those were out of the question. The vet had told me to use a vegan/vegetarian glucosamine, which I am not familiar with in terms of effectiveness as I’ve only heard of cystease on here. I just didn’t want to harm her with anything of course, so the vet made me worry
