I have recently had to move house due to a breakup, so my piggies have had to move outside due to living situations, I feel really guilty as its so cold now, everything is freezing, including their water, ive got 2 covers on the hutch, front cover also, heat pads, loads of hay in the hutch, but I still feel awful, I cant run any electric to the hucth for heat, and no shed to put them in, ive been seriously considering rehoming them, there is a nice lady in my area who takes them in to be rehomed, but I feel awful about it I love them so much, but Id rather they be getting attention and be inside a house, as living outsdie I hardly spend any time with them, and I have so many memerioes attached to them, what would other people advise? rehome them? or stick it out (but feel guilty)

I think you will feel more at ease knowing you choose the best for your piggies, in this case rehoming them in a loving home. I know this might be hard, but you might feel better with them feeling good. If something happens to them you might feel even worse. Sometimes loving our piggies is knowing when to let go.

You are the one to decide what is best for them. I think if there’s very little interaction with them then maybe it’s best they’re rehomed to somewhere they can get more. It’s a difficult decision though.

Is there any way you could spend more time with them? Or get a shed to put them in?

I am in a house share so I really have no say, to put a shed in the garden :( I wish I could, or even get my own place so they could come back indoors but I just cannot afford it. :(

A way that might you put at ease is trying to find a home for them from someone you know? You could still see them, and maybe when your situation gets better and if it isn't too much stress for them you could take them back

Thats a good idea Hananas I am just keeping my options open right now and having an ask around, and when the right option comes about I will commit.

Sorry to hear it’s so tough. I think you’ll make the right decision for you ❣️

Do you have any friends or family that would be happy to Foster them on a kind of long term loan? Maybe someone who's thinking about getting Guineas but not sure? If they get on ok with them they could keep them, but if they're not the pets they expected, not for them - they could hand them back to you?
You get a piggy sitter, they get a long trial & reassurance they can give them back if things don't work out? You would need to agree in writing of the arrangement though, vet bills, food costs, etc.

Whilst they're outside keep an old duvet over their hutch, with a waterproof cover/plastic sheet over it. Allow ventilation to stop condensation though. The draughts & damp are the biggest concerns for guineas. Sounds like you have sorted the basics already cover /heatpad/hay etc.
If you put an upturned cardboard box in the hutch & stuff it with hay, a small hole to act as a doorway this should keep them warm & toastie in the meantime.

Pop a couple of old thick socks over the water bottle to stop it freezing & check it regularly.

If it comes to rehoming them, have a look at the recommended rescue section on here (top toolbar) for somewhere local.

What country/county are you in? Is it the UK?
If you update your profile with a general area, maybe someone can help you with more local solution?

Sorry you've found yourself in this situation.
Xx

So sorry that you are in such a difficult situation.
I admire the way you are considering your piggies needs no matter how hard it is for you.
Holding you in my heart

How many do you have? if you have your own room can't you have an indoor cage? My daughter rents at uni and shares and has permission to have them indoors. May be worth asking the landlord :)

Thank you for all your kind words and suggestions, I have found a very local rescue centre who is going to take them this weekeend, they draw up a contract and make sure that potential adopters spend some time with them at the rescue before they have them, and they vet homes and house check, and they have to keep in contact with the rescue, and if anything doesn't work out then they go back to the rescue, this has put my mind at ease and I think it would be better for my boys to have more attention and live indoors, which I cannot give them right now, still so hard but I must not be selfish, and do whats best for them❤️

This has been a difficult situation for you especially under your own emotional circumstances.. the rescue sounds like a good one so I am sure they will be loved and cared for like they have been with you. X
