Hi, my two boys are 6 months (Walter) and 9 months (Gus). I've started to notice that little Walter is getting very abrasive towards Gus. Not so much fighting, more like rumblestrutting and teeth chattering. They have always been together and they go mad if I separate them for longer than five minutes.

Walter has been a little smellier than usual and has had a couple of bum baths. He keeps dragging his little bum across surfaces as if marking his place.

I was thinking of getting them a new friend in hopes another little bundle of fur might bring a little peace between them. (also, I really want another!)

Would this be a good idea?
Thanks :)

Your pigs are definitely in the throws of puberty! From what you've said it sounds like their behavior is pretty normal; they're just trying to figure out who's alfa pig. That said, I really would advise against getting another pig at this point. From personal experience, I can tell you that a trio of boars very rarely works. If you get a female, there is no question that she would get pregnant, which is also bad. Give them a few months for their hormones to level out. If you still want more, consider getting a pair of girls (which still might make things difficult if your boys can smell them), or neuter your boys and get them each a wife pig. I understand that boar dynamics can be frustrating, but boys will be boys, and the last thing you want is a falling out! Good luck :)

I think Walter might be suffering with small man syndrome. He's tiny in comparison to the chubby Gus.
Thanks for your advise about the trio of boars, you may have just saved me from Guinea-geddon!
I'll keep an eye on them and hope their squabbles don't turn into fights.
