My piggy seems to have a very minor case of what looks exactly like "fatty eye" in his right eye.
As I am a good 2 hours drive from the nearest vet, I'd rather be able to properly diagnose and treat what seems like his mild Fatty Eye infection myself, if I can.
Whatever is wrong with his eye, it's VERY minor. There is only a tiny bit of swollen pink stuff at the bottom eye lid which is slightly sagging. Looks exactly identical to fatty eye, but very minor.

The eyelid falling away (usually towards the back of the eyelid) and exposing the conjunctiva is fatty/pea eye. Fatty/pea eye is harmless and requires no treatment. Quite common in older piggies. Swollen conjunctiva or any other eye issue requires vet diagnosis and prescribed treatment.
However, we cannot diagnose the issue and unless you are a qualified vet, then you cannot either. Equally, we cannot tell you what treatments are required, and never recommend any home DIY treatments in any event.

I'm not sure if the conjunctiva is swollen, and if it is it's only very slight.
I'll try to get a pic of his right eye tomorrow (as it is 9 pm over here 😴) to have your opinion of his eye condition.
- I may not be able to take a proper pic of his eye at all, but at least I'll try

The thing is, even if we have a picture, we still cannot tell you what is actually wrong as we cannot make any diagnosis.
It will require a qualified hands on check. If you cannot tell if it swollen when you physically have piggy there, we will definitely not be able to do so from a photo

It's hard to take a photo, so if it's not going to help anyway there's no point.
His right eye seems to be producing more of the white milky substance that guinea pigs use to clean themselves. Does this mean that there is some sort of infection? I understand you aren't able to give a diagnosis, I'm just trying to find what generally is going on with his eye. I appreciate your help.

We really can’t tell you what may be going on. It would be better if you can have him checked out by a vet. Anything eye related is classed as an emergency and (in general) should be treatable by a general vet. I think given you have noticed this change you should take him to be seen.

I agree.
The risk of trying to treat it yourself is that you make it worse and end up with a very expensive vet trip.

Hope you can get him to a vet.
I think those of us living in a small country don't always appreciate the distances some of you have to travel, but any general vet can deal with eye issues

I've noticed this for the year that I've had my piggy.... His right eye seems to get irritated easily and/or seems to have a infection that is very slowly getting worse. Occasionally -but not all the time- he will get crusty bits around his eye which I wipe off, the fur under his eye gets oily and usually the bottom eyelid sags a bit which looks very much like fatty eye. However some days, his eye seems 99.9% normal. I managed to get some photos. Sorry that they aren't the best quality.
It goes unsaid that I will have to get him checked by a vet, but I just wanted to get some opinion as what generally is happening with his eye. Does this seem like an infection of some sort?

I’ve merged this new post with your original thread of a few weeks ago about his eye.
Any unusual discharge needs to be seen by a vet. We can’t know if he has any infection but eye issues do need to be seen promptly.

Thanks for moving my post. 👍
I am just a little worried about the crusty bits around his eye and the oily stuff on his fur, but I understand you can't help me as I need to seek veterinarian advise first. Thanks for your help.

Sorry for asking the same question about his eye once again.

I'm just wondering whether you can get a sort of 'distance' consult with a vet - where you e-mail these pics in (and maybe a few of the other eye for comparison) and get an e-mail or video consult. Over here you need a prescription for antibiotic eye cream for pets but the same one (10mg/ml Isathal) is used for all sorts of species. Not every country needs a prescription for AB eye cream though...?

That's a great idea!
However, I just discovered yesterday that there is a vet within driving distance of me. I originally thought the closest one was many hours away.
Thanks for your idea though. 👍
