No i am not throwing insults around!

I am wondering whether my pigs are too fat... They came to me as big piggies in size, They are quite big in height and do have a double chin... I look at other peoples pitcure of their piggies and they seem quite slim...

Everyone has commented on the size of my pigs... Now i was quite amazed at teh size of them as my abby guineap pig was quite light and small.

How much veg should 3 guinea pigs be getting each day?

They get hay throughout the day and a small dish of pellets are left out for them all the time...

This is the best picture i could get of Squeaky McCheeky... Does she look dumpy?

She looks fine to me, she's about the size of my big guys bum would post a pic but all my files are too large.

Aww she's gorgeous! What does she weigh? Fleur is like that with the chins 2lb/2 and a half pound would be a good weight for a sow but they are all different. :)

I cannot get near them at the moment to weigh them as i was waiting until they have settled down and i didnt want to put them further back by handling them ... i think it is about time i got my gloves out and popped them on the weighing scales... they are going to have to get used to me picking them up occasionally!

They seem fine physically and they get a small carrot, quarter of a cucumber, stick of celery, double handful of spinach or spring greens twice a day (veg varies as they had half a pepper today instead of a carrot)... is this too much or just enough?

That seems like a good amount for them...although I wouldn't recommend feeding them celery as I have heard that they can choke on the stringy bits...My piggies eat about that much as well...

Sounds good to me too. Celery is ok as long as you chop it up. Although there isn't much goodness in it so no need to give it all the time, it's like cucumber just full of water. They love it though! :D

It all depends on how much exercise they're getting too. Like any animal, we all need to have the right diet and enough exercise to lead a healthy life. One of my males I have at the moment is the biggest pig I've had, I call him "Tank" lol coz he's so big but I don't feed him any more than I do my others or did with others I've had, he gets a lot of exercise but most guinea-pigs just sit and eat and eat and eat and won't really want to do much else lol.

You could get a toy in which you place food into a toy ball, they roll it about and get the food out the holes. I have one for my rabbit that my guinea-pigs have used too and they keep active as well as having a meal.

Just an idea if you're worried? :)

I am waiting to put them outside at the moment but cannot find a suitable two tier hutch in my area... they are not getting massive amounts of exercise at the moment because they are on the dining room table and as i cant get near them still it would stress them out too much to be on the floor in any capacity!

Must keep on my search for a two tier hutch me thinks and get them more exercise... I have a treat ball that my rabbits dont use so i will pop some tasty veg in there and let them get on with it... Thanks for that suggestion!

Here is the best pic I have of Fleur who has rolls, now she lives in a 4x4 C&C with her sister Flora and adopted babes Amber and Pearl and has access to a run she gets lots of exercise but doesn't actually run around the place, she never has she is more leisurely.

Aaaah shes cute! She does actually look the same size as mine which is nice to know! I suppose i am just used to small guinea pigs ::) I tell you these are mutant piggies... ;D

My piggies were supposed to be short term as i was looking for a home for them but then decided to keep them so at the moment they aer in a cage that takes up the whole dining room table... but now they are staying i want them outside in the fresh air and chomping on grass ;D THey would be much happier not to be around people 24/7 ans hopefully work off the food they are getting!

i have 3 boys and a girl who are fairly big! they go in the runs, but some of them just sit there and dont bother moving - lazy i think they are!

your piggy looks fine to me, we have two sisters and they are very different in sizes, i suppose its just like humans!

The reason any animal is prone to weight gain is lack of exercise 'v' food intake, most animals wouldn't exercise out of choice, to help them in this respect we have a two tier hutch with sleeping area at the top, living area at the top and a larger living area at the bottom, joined by a ramp, they therefore have to use the ramp. They also use an outdoor run most days that the weather is acceptable, however usually they just eat grass and laze around!

I have read on other pet forums that agencies ( ie rspca) are prosecuting owners of 'fat' pets as neglect!

This is my big pig Benjamin - he was 4 1/2 months old in the first pic and 6 months old in the second. When I last weighed him he was 1.15kg. He gets lots of exercise so I guess he's just 'big boned'...just like me! Haven't seen him for nearly a month (one more week to go!) so will have to see how much he's put on while I've been away...

Benjamin's emailed me and said that Squeeky McCheeky looks fine to him! ;D :smitten:

Squeeky McCheeky says thank you Benjamin... your not so bad yourself! ;) :smitten:

Fugly has double chin, we call it his ruff, he uses it to hide his feet from me 2funny 2funny

He is about 18 months and weights 3 pounds or 1362g
