This is my piggy Rupert, she’s 1 and half years old. I researched this and it came
up as fatty eye? (Pea eye) but this is at the top and in all the things about fatty eye it is at the bottom. Please help. It looks exactly like the fat eye but without it being at the top more like the inner corner... and a bit more pink but my parents won’t let me take to the vet since she’s had it all her life

Hi!

Unfortunately the photos are not very clear, but whatever the issue is (prolapsed tear glands?), it is no pea eye. Please see a vet as it needs a hands-on examination and any possible treatment based on the vet's findings.

I’m going to merge your threads as they’re on the same topic. Please only start the one thread 🙂 You can return to it if needs be.

My pig Louise has fatty deposits below each eye. She didn't have them when she came here at age 3 but since she lost her very dominant friend Zara and went in with my boy/girl pair she's gained weight up to 1.36 kilo. I took her in for a check to make sure it wasn't infection or unnoticed hay-poke and the vet said that was the cause in her case - she's a big fat girl and even her eyes are fat! One is more obvious than the other. I have to watch out for the colour - normally creamy white but if they start to look pink or red or teary there's a risk it's become infected. You might have guessed from my forum name that my pigs have rather more room than they need and she's bottom pig but this girl is built for comfort and loves nothing more than lying around in fleecy tunnels. She's recently recovered from a bout of bloat so I'm on guard for her troughing habits now! You can just see her fat eye in this pic...

We also had an old girl called Daisy in the past who came here for her retirement. Daisy was nearly 5 and had fat eyes and a bit of arthritis but after a few weeks here her eyes actually went back to 'normal' - presumably the new environment prompted her to move around a bit more! I thought I'd imagined it but her old owners came for a visit to make sure she was happy and they commented on the difference - she'd had fat eyes for a few years. So it looks like this can go either way!
