Ive had Pippa for about a year and a half and Eva just under a year. Eva came into my care after Pippas original partner died suddenly. Eva is an Aby Guinea so as some of you may know a lot cheekier and likes to be the dominant one. They were bonded properly when I got her and it seemed like they both got on. Eva had unfortunately an operation about three weeks ago which left her I think scarred not only physically but mentally within herself as she's getting used to her hair growing back and me picking her up. Yesterday she had one of her moments and started to frantically run around the cage and try to itch the surgical wound on her back. After a while I think Pippa got fustrated and both started to teeth chatter, Really loudly and then suddenly went for each other. Never seen this happen before especially between two paired females. I immediately got them both out and put them in an unfamiliar place so they bonded back together straight away. They did great, lots of sniffing and Eva with her content squeaking. Meanwhile I was completely cleaning there cage and made it completely different to what they are used to plus added lavender drops to the corners. Can someone tell me, what on earth happened?!?!? I'm anxious it will happen again? Worst of all, when I'm not there!

Medical prcedures and recovery can be one of those periods that test a bond, especially when the established hierarchy comes under question. Please have Eva seen by your vet re. her skin problem. It is doesn't sound quite right and it may be the beginnings of mange mites due to a lowered immune system.

As your two girls did get together well, the bond has not broken and should hopefully settle down again once you have sorted out the itchiness. Make sure that the girls have got plenty of space and two of each (hideys, bowls etc.)
